HTC Desire 500 finally available in the UK
Three months after it first went up for pre-order, the HTC Desire 500 is now finally available in the UK. This handset is a midranger that was initially introduced for the Taiwanese market only in July, but then got a European launch in August.
Well known third party phone retailer Carphone Warehouse now has the Desire 500 in stock. If you’re willing to sign a new two-year contract with an operator, you can get the handset for free with plans starting at £15 per month. That cheapest option is at TalkMobile and it gives you 50 minutes, 200 texts, and 100 MB of data each month. Granted, that’s not much.
For just £1.99 more per month, Orange is offering 500 minutes, unlimited texts, and 250 MB of data. Obviously, there are many other possible contracts to choose from, going all the way up to £47 per month (and at that price point, you pretty much get unlimited talk and text and around 2 GB of data).
According to Android Central, if you want to buy an HTC Desire 500 from Carphone Warehouse in SIM-free and unlocked form, you’ll only have to pay £199.99, which is cheaper than at other retailers. Unfortunately though, the SIM-free ordering page doesn’t seem to be up right now, so if you want to go this route either wait a while or just go to your nearest Carphone Warehouse store to do the deed.
The Desire 500 comes with a 4.3-inch 480×800 touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash and 720p HD video capture, a 1.6 MP front camera, a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, all the usual connectivity options (sans LTE), and a 1,800 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
