New Windows Phone 8.1 Blue to debut with the Nokia Goldfinger and Moneypenny?
Microsoft is getting ready to launch a new version of Windows Phone, namely Windows Phone 8.1 Blue, which is expected to arrive in the first half of 2014.
According to EVleaks, the first two devices that will run WP 8.1 “are shaping up to be” the Nokia Goldfinger and Moneypenny. Of course, these are just codenames (both linked to the James Bond series – see here and here), so the final names of the products will be different.
There is no word on what the Nokia Goldfinger and Moneypenny actually are. Smartphones, everyone probably thinks. However, one of them might be a tablet. Last month, Paul Thurrott reported that Windows Phone Blue will “supposedly support 7- to 10-inch screens” – which shouldn’t be a surprise, since Windows Phone 8 GDR3 already supports quite large displays (like the 6 inch Full HD screen of the Nokia Lumia 1520 that will hit shelves around the world this month).
It’s said that one of the most important features that WP 8.1 will have is a notification center. It’s also said that the new OS will come with enhanced multitasking capabilities. What it may not have is a Back button – so to get out of an app users will just press the Start button (similarly to the way navigation works on iPhones). We’ll see how much of this turns out to be true.
