Huawei Ascend P6 Android 4.4 KitKat update set to arrive before the end of January 2014
Although it may not be the world’s thinnest smartphone anymore, you really can’t say that the Huawei Ascend P6 isn’t impressive in its thinness. And through that trait and through its rather interesting design it’s managed to make a name for itself, at least in China where there were 2 million pre-orders for it.
Now that Google has announced Android 4.4 KitKat, everyone is waiting for each Android device maker to announce its plans regarding upgrades to this particular version. HTC and Sony have already chimed in, and Motorola’s looking forward to releasing 4.4 for the X in the next few weeks, with the G having a ‘guaranteed’ update coming out before the end of January next year.
So what about Huawei then? Here’s some good news. The Chinese company plans to release the update to KitKat for the Ascend P6 early next year – “by the end of January”. If this actually happens (delays occur more often than they should in this business), then Huawei will for the first time ever manage to be at the forefront of device updates in the Android world, even if we’re only talking about one phone model.
Still, you have to start somewhere. So here’s hoping that Huawei won’t forget about its many other Android devices and grace at least some of them with the KitKat update in due course.
