Moto G already receiving Android 4.4 KitKat update
When it announced the Moto G, Motorola promised that an update to Android 4.4 KitKat would arrive for it in January.
Now we’ve heard of a smartphone maker promising a specific update time frame and then failing to make it in time – this has happened countless times, updates are delayed left and right. But for a manufacturer to put out an update even earlier than its self-imposed timeline would have you believe? That’s unheard of.
Yet that’s exactly what’s happened here. The Android 4.4 KitKat update for Moto G units purchased in the US is now rolling out over-the-air. So if you own a Moto G and got it from the US, expect it to notify you that there’s an update available to download and install any minute now – and you go from there.
Unfortunately, the good news is reserved to the US for now. Moto G units in other markets are still slated to get the update sometime next month. It wouldn’t surprise us if it dropped in the first few days of January, though, given Motorola’s recent antics.
So it’s true: besides being great value for money, the Moto G is also one of the phones that receive the quickest OS updates. Let’s hope this wasn’t a one-time thing, and when Android 4.5 or 5.0 hits, the situation will repeat itself.
