Even more Huawei Ascend Mate 2 pictures get leaked, disappointing 6.1″ 720p screen “confirmed” again
A few days ago we saw some leaked pictures comparing the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 to its predecessor. While these were of decent quality, they only showed smalll parts of the new phablet. Now though, a slew of other comparison images have been leaked and they show even more parts. And once again the Mate 2 (which is white) gets compared to a black original Mate.
We’re expecting Huawei to announce its second ever phablet during CES in January, since that’s also where the original Ascend Mate debuted early this year. One thing about the new Ascend Mate is highly disappointing, though: it really looks like it will keep the 6.1″ 720p display of its predecessor. That’s simply not high-end in this day and age, where all phablets come with 1080p Full HD resolution and there’s even talk of some sporting 2,560×1,440 resolution instead.
Obviously Huawei could decide to make the Ascend Mate 2 a lot more affordable than its competitors, in which case the display choice wouldn’t be as bad. But if the Chinese company labels this a flagship of sorts, then it’s not going to sell very many units.
The 720p screen was first caught when a couple of Ascend Mate 2 variants got certified for sale in China. Up to that point all rumors talked about a 1080p Full HD panel, so that seemed odd. However, we can now safely assume that those rumors weren’t based on any factual information, but just on what seemed to make sense.
And now the source of the photos you see above has also said that there is no improvement in resolution compared to the original Huawei phablet.
Other specs for the Ascend Mate 2: a 13 MP rear camera, a quad-core 1.6 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and Android 4.2 running the show with Huawei’s Emotion UI 2.0 sprinkled on top.
