Archos 50 Helium 4G and Archos 45 Helium 4G officially introduced with cheap prices

French company Archos, better known for being one of the first Android tablet producers on the planet, has unveiled two new smartphones both called Helium. Thus Archos keeps using the names of chemical elements for its increasingly wide range of devices.

The Helium smartphones are currently the company’s highest-end offerings. They have many similarities, including the looks which are virtually identical, but their sizes differ and so we’ll take them one by one.

The Archos 50 Helium 4G (seen above) comes with a 5-inch 720p HD IPS touchscreen, an 8 MP BSI rear camera with LED flash and 1080p Full HD video recording, a 2 MP front camera, a 1.4 GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, 4G LTE (150 Mbps download, 50 Mbps upload), HSPA, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, and a 2,000 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, with an update to version 4.4 KitKat promised.

The Archos 45 Helium 4G (pictured above) has a 4.5-inch 854×480 IPS touchscreen, a 5 MP rear camera with LED flash and 1080p Full HD video recording, a VGA front camera, a 1.4 GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, 4G LTE (150 Mbps download, 50 Mbps upload), HSPA, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, and a 1,700 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, with an update to version 4.4 KitKat promised.

As you can see, the bigger device is also the better specced, but the differences aren’t really that many. The 5-inch Archos 50 Helium 4G will retail for €239.99 or £229.99. The Archos 45 Helium 4G will be priced at €199.99 or £189.99.

So the phones are about as affordable as you’d expect from Archos. The smaller of the duo is the same price as the Moto G and has many lower-end features, but one key advantage: 4G LTE support. So maybe it will sell decently based on that attribute alone.
