5″ 1080p 2 GHz octa-core Alcatel One Touch Idol X+ gets official alongside Pop C9, Pop 7, Pop 8
If you don’t live in China yet wanted to be able to buy the octa-core TCL Idol X+ that was announced late last month, here’s some good news for you. Just as we anticipated, TCL will be offering the same handset internationally under the Alcatel brand.
Today, it announced the Alcatel One Touch Idol X+, which, for all intents and purposes is the TCL Idol X+, just with different branding. In case you forgot, here’s a refresher on its specs. It comes with a 5-inch 1080p Full HD touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash, a front camera too, a 2 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, dual-SIM support, HSPA (no LTE unfortunately), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 2,500 mAh battery. It runs some unannounced version of Android, likely with a TCL/Alcatel skin on top. It’s just 7.9 mm thin.
The Idol X+ is coming to Europe in February in black and white. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but the phone sells in China for around $329 – so don’t expect it to be cheaper than that. With those specs, an affordable price, and hopefully some decent distribution, this could be a small success for TCL in the future. We’ll have to wait and see, though.
The Idol X+ isn’t the only Alcatel-branded thing that got official today. Three more devices have been unveiled, which may sound like a lot – but remember, at last year’s CES the Chinese company took the wraps off of no less than 13 devices.
So, on we go then. The Alcatel One Touch Pop C9 is a midrange phablet coming with a 5.5-inch 540×960 touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera, a 2 MP front camera, a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G, and a 2,500 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
No price, no release date to speak of yet. And you shouldn’t buy this unless you have eyesight issues – since that’s probably the only case in which you won’t be able to count its pixels left and right.
Finally – two new tablets, the Alcatel One Touch Pop 7 and One Touch Pop 8. As you may imagine, the numbers in the names are all about screen size.
The One Touch Pop 7 comes with a 7-inch 1,024×600 touchscreen, a 1.3 GHz dual-core MediaTek MT8312 processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 2 MP rear camera, a 0.3 MP front camera, 4 GB of internal storage, microSD expansion, an IR blaster, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G. It runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It will be out in Europe by the end of February priced at €149.
The One Touch Pop 8 has an 8-inch 1,280×800 touchscreen, a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT8382 processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 2 MP rear camera, a 0.3 MP front camera, 4 GB of internal storage, microSD expansion, an IR blaster, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G. It runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It should be out by the end of March for a price of €199.
