Upcoming Huawei Ascend G6 rocks the P6’s design but comes with lesser specs

Huawei has been working on a poor man’s Ascend P6, it seems. The Huawei Ascend G6 keeps the P6’s iconic and slim design, but comes with lesser specs – undoubtedly so it can be sold cheaper than the Ascend P6.

The Ascend G6 has been certified for sale in China by the relevant authorities, and with this process come details about its specs as well as the images you can see below, showing it in all its glory.

Huawei Ascend G6

The Huawei Ascend G6 is still very thin, but isn’t quite so much so as the P6 – perhaps understandably, given that price constraints probably took their toll. Whereas the P6 comes in at 6.18 mm thin, the Ascend G6 will be a 7.5 mm affair. The other dimensions are smaller on the new phone, with a reported height of 130 mm and a width of 65 mm (compared to 132.7 mm and 65.5 mm for the P6, respectively).

Interestingly, we don’t yet know the G6’s screen size, only that its resolution will be 540×960. Not something unheard of for lower-midrange offerings, and if the size will be around 4.5-inches, not particularly horrible on the ppi scale either.

Other specs include a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor (in fact the same part as in the Honor 3C), 1 GB of RAM, an 8 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front camera, a microSD card slot, and support for China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA flavor of 3G. It will sport Huawei’s Emotion UI 2.0, which means there is a strong probability that Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is running the show.

It’s likely that the TD-SCDMA version will be launched first, which means the Ascend G6 won’t make it out of China for some time. Whether or not a more international-friendly variation will come after that remains anyone’s guess right now, but we don’t see why not – with good design and decent specs hopefully complemented by a reasonable price, this could be a great seller for Huawei.
