Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite goes up for pre-order in Russia, rather high price attached
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite was announced last week after having been leaked many times. However, Samsung hasn’t said anything official about its price. So all we had to go on until today were some past rumors that claimed the Wi-Fi-only model would be sold in Europe for €100 and in the US for $129.99.
That may still happen, but today the tablet has gone up for pre-order in Russia for a lot more. Before you go any further, you have to keep in mind that electronics in general (and smartphones and tablets in particular) are always more expensive in Russia than in other parts of Europe (where they’re already more expensive than in the US). So this may just be a case of that happening.
Still, the Wi-Fi-only Galaxy Tab 3 Lite is being offered by well known retailer Svyaznoy for 6,490 rubles, which is about $191, or €141 at the current exchange rates. The version that also gets 3G connectivity is listed at 9,990 rubles, or around $294 or €217. So a 40% premium on the rumored pricing compared to the European price, and an almost 50% increase compared to the one in US dollars. That’s quite a difference, but we’re still hoping that it applies solely to Russia.
Otherwise, Samsung is going to have a really hard time selling such a low-end device for such prices.
