Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo (Lite) gets official, already available in the Netherlands for €260
Samsung has decided to quietly make the Galaxy Grand Neo (or Galaxy Grand Lite) official today, without even putting out a press release. Rather, the device sporting the model number i9060 has simply been listed both on the Samsung Levant website, as well as on its Bulgarian website – with full specs, pictures, the likes.
Furthermore, the handset is already available to order in the Netherlands via one retailer, who claims it’s got units in stock ready to be shipped to eager customers immediately (with delivery in 24 hours). Mysteriously, though, this retailer is calling the i9060 the Galaxy Grand Lite, despite the fact that its official name is Galaxy Grand Neo. Perhaps Samsung changed that pretty late in the development stage, and the word hasn’t yet made it to all its partners – after all, when we first heard about it, it was the Galaxy Grand Lite.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo aims to complement the recently introduced Galaxy Grand 2 in the company’s portfolio. The Grand line is all about big screens with rather lowly specs, and the Grand Neo manages to somehow be even lower-end than the Grand 2 – which couldn’t have been easy.
The Galaxy Grand Neo sports a 5-inch 480×800 touchscreen (with just 186 ppi pixel density), a 5 MP rear camera with LED flash, a VGA front camera, a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage space, microSD card support, 21 Mbps HSPA+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 2,100 mAh battery. Its dimensions are 143.7×77.1×9.6 mm, and it weighs 163 grams.
That makes the Grand Neo almost as long and as wide as the Galaxy Note 3 (which comes with a much bigger screen), and it’s only 5 grams lighter than that. So this is anything but a pocketable device, do keep that in mind (it’s much less so than other handsets with 5″ screens – the bezels are huge in this case probably thanks to some aggressive cost-cutting, which can also be seen in the screen resolution employed).
The official Samsung websites that have listed the Galaxy Grand Neo don’t say which exact flavor of Android it runs, but the Dutch retailer has it that it’s version 4.2 Jelly Bean running the show, and that there’s only 8 GB of storage bundled in.
Speaking of that, if you’re in the Netherlands you can buy a Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo right now from Belsimpel. The price you’ll have to pay is €260 if you want to get it SIM-free. There are also some options up for purchasing it with a contract on three different carriers, if you so wish.
Interestingly, this price point is lower than the €299 previous rumors said the Grand Neo would cost, but even at €260 it’s a tough sell with that screen resolution and bulkiness.
