Sony Xperia Z Android 4.4 KitKat update said to roll out in late February or early March
The hot topic these days in the Android world is how much you have to wait until your particular device of choice finally gets updated to Android 4.4 KitKat, the latest version of the OS that launched at the end of October last year. That is, of course, if you’re lucky enough to own one of the rather few handsets and tablets that will in fact see the new software come officially.
So say you have a Sony Xperia Z, that company’s flagship device just one year ago – how much waiting do you still need to do? Well, not that much, it turns out. If a report coming from Polish carrier Play is accurate (and we have no reason to consider it otherwise), then the Xperia Z should get its taste of KitKat either at the end of this month or at the beginning of March.
This obviously only fully applies to Play customers in Poland. Things might be different in other places. However, if this carrier will roll out the update on this timeline, that gives us hope that maybe devices sold unlocked and unbranded across at least some regions of the world will see it even sooner – for that’s how things usually go in terms of updates.
So if you’re lucky you’ll get the update this month or next month. Hopefully the worldwide rollout won’t be staggered too much, but if you’re unlucky and your carrier of choice has a particularly long testing procedure, you might be going into April with no KitKat in sight. Let’s hope not, though.
