Sony Xperia SP Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update now rolling out
It’s already February 11 today, but apparently it’s still “early February” for Sony. That’s when the company promised to finally start rolling out the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the Xperia SP, and today it has started.
The update is currently only available in Malaysia and Australia, and you have to use Sony’s PC Companion desktop software to download and install it to your phone. This may obviously change in the near future, when the update should also start rolling out over-the-air. It’s also expected to reach more territories, but when exactly is anyone’s guess.
As always with such things, the rollout is staggered, so it’s unclear when it will reach your particular device. Oh, and if you bought your Xperia SP unlocked and SIM-free you have the chance of getting the update quicker than those who purchased theirs from a carrier.
All that said, if you are in Australia or Malaysia and can’t wait, there’s a simple solution: just download Sony’s PC Companion, connect your handset to your computer, and start updating.
The new software brings with it the white UI seen in all other Sony smartphones that run Android 4.3, a new Sony Smart Camera app, new Sony media apps, new downloadable Xperia themes, new stock wallpapers and stock themes, a new launcher, and improved performance which makes the UI feel a lot smoother. After applying the update, you’ll be on build 12.1.A.0.266.
