Sony D5103 leaks as an upcoming midranger to possibly take on the Moto G
Sony’s no stranger to launching many different smartphones per year, and it looks like 2014 will be no different. The company is expected to unveil the Xperia Z2 (codenamed Sirius) soon, but alongside that may come a new midrange offering: the D5103.
That model number is the only thing we can call it right now, since its actual name hasn’t been leaked yet. But thanks to someone benchmarking it with GFXBench, we do get a peek at some of its most important specs.
So, the Sony D5103 will come with a 720p HD touchscreen (size is still a mystery, though), and a 1.4 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. In fact, it’s the same chipset that Motorola uses for the very popular Moto G, albeit in the Sony smartphone it’s clocked 200 MHz higher.
The D5103 will launch running Android 4.4 KitKat, and the “3” in its model number signifies that it will come with 4G LTE support – something which the Moto G lacks. Thus based on these leaked specs this could be Sony’s competitor for the Moto G. That is, unless its screen size will be significantly bigger, in which case it will be aimed at a different market altogether.
That said, even if it’s a direct competitor to the Moto G, don’t expect the Sony D5103 to be similarly priced, as Sony’s penchant for overpricing its wares is well known by now. Still, an intriguing one this D5103, hopefully we’ll find out more about it soon.
