Samsung Exynos Infinity teased for MWC unveiling next week, could be 64-bit CPU for Galaxy S5

Ever since Apple shocked the mobile world by putting a 64-bit processor inside the iPhone 5S last year, the pundits have been predicting that Samsung would follow suit and release its own 64-bit CPU. After all, Samsung is making those 64-bit chips for Apple, plus it has a penchant for ‘emulating’ what the Californian company does in mobile, so it seemed like a natural thing to do. But it hasn’t happened thus far. That doesn’t mean we won’t see a 64-bit Samsung Exynos processor announced soon.

Today the official Exynos Twitter account revealed the teaser image you can see below. Clearly, a new chipset is going to be presented at MWC – which takes place in Barcelona next week. It will be called Exynos Infinity, breaking with the tradition of using numbers – say Exynos 4 and Exynos 5.

Samsung Exynos Infinity teaser

“Infinity” is a powerful word, so this might be a very important chipset for Samsung, hence our shameless speculation that it will be the long rumored 64-bit part finally unearthed. And what else is Samsung going to announce at MWC next week? The Galaxy S5. So does it not stand to reason that these two may be related? We think we very well could see an Exynos Infinity CPU inside at least some versions of the Galaxy S5.

That said, Samsung hasn’t actually given us anything concrete about this new chipset just yet. The text accompanying the teaser image reads like incomprehensible PR speak: “Continuing our market-leading innovation and leadership, we bring you our latest innovations. Please stay tuned”. So there’s still a chance that this will turn out to be something else, let’s all keep that in mind.
