Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet priced in Europe
Sony unveiled the Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Z2 Tablet mere hours ago, and already official pricing is available for both devices in Europe. And while the tablet has pretty much identical prices across the Eurozone, the Z2 smartphone’s varies. A lot.
For example, the Xperia Z2 costs £599 in the UK, but €599 in Germany. That’s the cheapest you can find it anywhere, since in the rest of Europe it goes for either €649 (only in the Netherlands, though) or even a whopping €699 (in France, Italy, and Spain) – that’s iPhone pricing territory. Sure, Sony’s always loved to overprice its wares at launch, but this is getting ridiculous.
The Xperia Z2 Tablet starts at £399 in the UK (for the 16 GB Wi-Fi model). The 32 GB Wi-Fi tablet goes for £449, while the 4G LTE capable unit (which is only offered with 16 GB of storage) is priced at £499.
Elsewhere in Europe, the tablet can be yours for €499 (16 GB Wi-Fi), €549 (32 GB Wi-Fi), or €629 (4G LTE). We expect US pricing to be the same (in terms of numbers) – so $499, $549, and $629, respectively. That would make the Z2 Tablet have identical pricing to the iPad Air, which is one of its main competitors.
In certain territories, but not in Ireland, Norway, or the UK, Sony is offering three-year warranty for just €1. All of the above prices come straight from the Japanese company’s own online stores throughout Europe, so these are as official as possible.
