Asus shares its Android 4.4 KitKat update plans
Following in the footsteps of many other Android device makers, Asus has finally decided to reveal its plans with regard to Android 4.4 KitKat updates. Today, the company shared a list of devices that should be updated at some point in the future.
So, it’s good news for you if you own an Asus PadFone 2, PadFone Infinity (both old and new), or PadFone A80. The update will come to the original PadFone Infinity in Asia and Russia, and the PadFone A80 in Europe. The PadFone 2 and the new Infinity should see KitKat in all territories.
The updates will be out for the PadFone 2, PadFone A80, and original PadFone Infinity by the end of the second quarter of the year – so in June, we assume. For the new PadFone Infinity, the update will only become available in the third quarter, so between July and September.
Alongside the new Android bits, Asus will also bundle ZenUI, its new UI overlay. It’s interesting to see how Asus, which was one of the fastest companies in terms of issuing Android updates just a couple of years ago, has now become one of the slowest moving in this regard. If the KitKat update for the new PadFone Infinity is only out in, say, September, that would be almost 11 months after that particular OS version got unveiled. That’s a lot of waiting to do.
