Sony Xperia Z2 arrives in the UK on the same day as the Samsung Galaxy S5
The Sony Xperia Z2 was announced on the same day as the Samsung Galaxy S5, and now it looks like these two superphones will both launch on the same day too – at least in the UK. The Xperia Z2 has already been up for pre-order at certain retailers of SIM-free and unlocked mobile devices for a while, but now we have a release date for it in the UK as well.
See, Phones 4u has started taking pre-orders for the Xperia Z2, and the well known third party phone retailer has thrown in a shipping date to accompany its listing. The Sony Xperia Z2 is said to be out on April 11. Coincidence or not, that’s the exact same day on which Samsung expects the Galaxy S5 to become available in almost 150 countries.
So is this a cunning plan from Sony to steal some of the Galaxy S5’s thunder? Possibly. Regardless of that, though, April 11 looks like it’s going to be one of the most important dates of the year, at least in terms of smartphone launches.
Phones 4u is offering the Xperia Z2 with contracts from EE and Vodafone. To get it for free, you’ll need to agree to a 24-month plan that costs at least £47 per month – so this is anything but an affordable device. Though seeing as how it’s going to be Sony’s next flagship, that’s hardly surprising.
The aforementioned £47 plan is at Vodafone and offers unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, and 3 GB of data each month. The most expensive plan is £57 per month, also offered by Vodafone, and it brings you an additional 6 GB of data for a total of 9 GB. There are other options, though, which you should go through before making up your mind, obviously.
