LG D850 will have 2,560×1,440 screen, it’s probably the G3
LG will probably unveil the G3 in May. At least that’s what some past rumors claimed. The G2’s successor has also been rumored to come with a “2K” or QHD touchscreen, meaning it will have a resolution of 2,560×1,440. Now this has been long rumored for the Samsung Galaxy S5 as well, and that turned out to have stuck with ‘just’ 1080p Full HD resolution, so don’t get too excited yet.
A few days ago we told you that the G3’s model number could be D850. This clearly is an upcoming LG device, and it being the G3 would seemingly follow LG’s past logic in using model numbers – the G2 is D800, the Nexus 5 is D820, and the G Pro 2 is D830. So the D8xx line is clearly reserved for extremely high-end handsets in LG’s portfolio. Since the company’s already revealed its flagship phablet for 2014 (the G Pro 2), it stands to reason that the only other flagship coming this year would be the G3.
So while this hasn’t been confirmed yet, the D850 is probably the G3. And @evleaks has spotted a user agent profile for the D850 over on LG’s website. This XML document contains the very neat confirmation that this device will indeed come with 2,560×1,440 resolution. It says absolutely nothing else about it, though, so that’s all we know for now.
If LG really manages to cram that many pixels into the G3, it would be a big win for the company to pull that off before any of its big competitors, so this could get rather interesting. Stay tuned.
