Sony Xperia T2 Ultra won’t be sold in the UK SIM-free
It may be headed to T-Mobile in the USA, but the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra apparently won’t be making its way to the UK – or at least you won’t be able to find it over there in SIM-free and unlocked form. As many people in the UK like to get their smartphones without contracts tied to a particular operator, this won’t be good news for those who’ve had their eyes on the T2 Ultra.
It was announced in mid-January as Sony’s first midrange phablet (and only its second phablet ever, following the Xperia Z Ultra). It was supposed to be out around the end of April and cost around £310 including VAT if you got it SIM-free and unlocked, but you won’t be able to do that.
The word comes straight from Sony’s UK arm who informed online retailer Handtec that it has to remove the Xperia T2 Ultra from its online store, as the company has decided not to sell it in the UK. There’s a (slim) chance that this only applies to selling it SIM-free, so maybe some operators will still offer it. That said, you shouldn’t get your hopes up.
It’s not clear what has prompted this action from Sony, but perhaps it wants to focus the Xperia T2 Ultra on markets where it knows it will sell very well.
