Sony Xperia M Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update now rolling out

The Sony Xperia M was launched last year running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and now it’s been bumped up to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. It’s not the biggest of updates, that’s for sure, but it’s an update nevertheless – something which should be cherished when we’re talking about a midrange smartphone, since those don’t usually get updates of any kind.

The Android 4.3 update for the Xperia M has started rolling out today, with Sony already acknowledging the new software version on its product page for the device. This right now only applies to the single-SIM Xperia M, as it doesn’t look like the dual-SIM version has begun getting this update just yet.

Furthermore, in a twist compared to what usually happens in these situations, the update is only out for some carrier versions of the Xperia M in Europe and Asia – and not (yet) for handsets sold unlocked and SIM-free.

The new software version brings with it a smoother UI, graphics enhancements, a new version of Stamina mode, new camera UI with Burst Mode and Superior Auto, new versions for Sony’s apps (such as Walkman, Album and Movies), as well as the new bits from Google.

As always, it may take some time before your particular Xperia M handset sees the update as available, so be patient if that hasn’t happened already. The important thing to remember is that it’s now on its way. After applying the update, you’ll be on build 15.4.A.0.23.
