Samsung Galaxy S5 available worldwide today, developer edition for Verizon coming soon

After a pretty long waiting period from its announcement, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is finally out today. April 11 was always the intended release date, having first been mentioned during the smartphone’s unveiling in February. And, despite several reports claiming otherwise, it has actually gone on sale today.

If you live in one of the 125 countries or territories where the Galaxy S5 launches today, then you can probably already go and grab one from your nearest carrier store or from your favorite retailer.

The Galaxy S5 doesn’t come alone, though. Samsung’s Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches, as well as the Gear Fit armband have all made it to stores today too. So you can buy one of those alongside the Galaxy S5 if you so wish.

But there is more. If you’re in the US, you’ll soon be able to buy a Developer Edition Galaxy S5 tailor made for Verizon’s network. We assume this will come with an unlocked or unlockable bootloader allowing for easy tinkering with the software, as opposed to the ‘normal’ Galaxy S5 that you can already get at Big Red.

While Samsung has already listed this device on its US website, the company provides no details about its pricing or when exactly it will be out. We’ll keep you posted though.
