Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom may get announced on April 29 as the Galaxy K
Last year, Samsung launched a few derivatives based (somewhat loosely) on its flagship smartphone at the time, the Galaxy S4. Hence we had the Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S4 Active, and Galaxy S4 Zoom. The last in that list was basically just an S4 Mini coupled with a consumer-grade digital camera, complete with optical zoom.
This year, things may be a little bit different. Samsung is still going to cater to those enamored with photography, but the device it will launch may not be called Galaxy S5 Zoom, as you might have expected. Instead, the Korean company could be starting a new line of devices – the Galaxy K.
The first Galaxy K is almost certainly going to be unveiled on April 29 in Singapore, as you can see from the invite above. This was posted to Samsung’s official Twitter account, by the way. The letter K gets a lot of importance in said invite, which is why we assume the handset that will be unveiled will bear it. That and we’ve heard a few mumblings about a Galaxy K before. So this might be it.
It’s unclear why Samsung would choose not to brand this the Galaxy S5 Zoom. Perhaps the company realized that using its flagship’s brand too much can actually dilute it. So it looks like from this point on, if you want a Samsung smartphone focused on photography, you should get a Galaxy K.
