Sony Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, and Tablet Z will get Android 4.4 KitKat updates in May
About a month ago, Sony released Android 4.4 KitKat updates for the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, and Xperia Z1 Compact, while at the same time promising more updates to come in the second quarter of this year. That particular quarter started this month and ends in June, and the devices in question were the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, and Tablet Z.
All of these were slated to get their updates in mid-Q2, which should mean May. And indeed it looks like all of these will in fact run the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system starting next month.
That’s because Sony has now updated each device’s product page on its website, with May 2014 clearly listed as the release time frame for the update to Android 4.4 KitKat.
So if you own an Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, or Xperia Tablet Z, you’ll perhaps be happy to know that you only have a few more weeks of waiting for the KitKat update to reach your particular device. We’ll let you know when Sony starts rolling out the new bits.
Sure, it’s been a long wait so far, and at one point we were led to believe that the update for the Xperia Z would come in February or March. Obviously, that didn’t happen, but now it’s almost here.
