Moto X successor has its name confirmed on Motorola website
The Moto X was announced last summer, so you’d think Motorola would unveil a successor to its flagship smartphone sometime soon. And you might be right. Obviously the company will at some point this year have to come up with a sequel to the very well received Moto X, but what will it be called?
Just Moto X, or “new Moto X”? Moto X2? Well, Motorola’s own website says neither of those. The ex-Google company went with something a lot stranger, as it turns out that its flagship for 2014 will be the Moto X+1.
This is not that surprising now that HTC has actually put a device’s codename in its official moniker – strange branding is a trend for 2014, it seems.
So just how do we know it’s going to be Moto X+1? The Moto Maker website gave it away. If you go there, view the page for the Moto X, then replace its codename (FLEXR1) in the address bar with “FLEXR2” (which is what a successor should be called, right?), what you get is a placeholder page for, you guessed it, the Moto X+1.
No actual details about the phone are available over there, but it’s good to at least see its name confirmed.
