Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, and Nokia Lumia Icon all now $99.99 with contract

From the moment the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8 launched, Verizon made them both available with a BOGO (Buy One, Get One for free) deal. Essentially you paid for one device ($199.99 with a new two-year contract), and actually got two smartphones. So if you needed a couple of handsets, and not just one, you were in fact paying half the price for each.

That was certainly a good deal, especially because we don’t usually see such things from carriers from the moment a new flagship smartphone launches. That said, the BOGO deal is now over.

Before you weep, though, know that Verizon has done something even more unexpected – namely, it has seemingly cut the prices of the aforementioned devices for good. So now both the Galaxy S5 and the One M8 are priced at $99.99 with contract, regardless of how many units you get. The only caveat (aside from the long-term commitment that’s required) is that there’s a $50 mail-in rebate involved in the purchase of the Samsung Galaxy S5. Otherwise, though, you’re choosing between the best two options from the Android world for the price of a forgettable midranger.

In case you’ve forgotten, let’s recap the specs you’re getting. The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a 5.1-inch 1080p Full HD Super AMOLED touchscreen, a 16 MP rear camera with LED flash and 4K UHD video recording, a 2.1 MP front camera, a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, 150 Mbps 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC, an IR remote, fingerprint sensor, heart rate monitor, and a 2,800 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat.

The HTC One M8 has a 5-inch 1080p Full HD touchscreen, an UltraPixel HTC Duo Camera with dual LED flash on the back, a 5 MP front camera, a 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, IR blaster, BoomSound dual front speakers with built-in amplifiers, and a 2,600 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat too.

But wait, there’s more! If your mobile OS of choice is Windows Phone, Big Red has you covered too. That’s because the Nokia Lumia Icon has had its price cut to $99.99 as well. And, like with the HTC One M8, there’s no rebate card involved here either.

Verizon Nokia Lumia Icon price cut

The Lumia Icon was announced in February as a Verizon exclusive, and it sports a 5-inch 1080p Full HD ClearBlack touchscreen that can be used with gloves, a 20 MP PureView rear camera, a 1.2 MP wide-angle front camera, a 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Qi wireless charging, and a 2,420 mAh battery. It runs the latest version of Windows Phone 8.

So there you have it. If you don’t mind having Verizon as your carrier, you can essentially get the cream of the crop from both the Android and Windows Phone camps for half the price of a flagship iPhone. Something to think about for sure. And if you want to buy any of these handsets, just follow the links below.
