HTC One Mini 2 leaks in press renders, live image
Just a few days ago we got to know that HTC’s upcoming successor to the One Mini from last year will be called One Mini 2 – not One M8 Mini as many had anticipated. HTC is therefore going with strange one more time, after choosing to incorporate the new One’s codename (M8) into its actual sales name. In the case of the yet to be announced smaller lookalike, the company sure hopes no one will notice that it has both one and two in the moniker.
The One Mini 2’s main specs got leaked all the way back in February, so now that we have that and the name all that’s left to leak is an image showing it. And over the weekend that happened too. The HTC One Mini 2 is shown here in a leaked press render courtesy of @evleaks:
And here out in the wild, doing its thing in a live image, thanks to Phone Arena:
This one is clearly recognizable as somehow related to the One M8 design-wise. And, obviously, to the One and One Mini from 2013 as well. HTC’s used the same all-metal construction and incredibly similar design touches for all four devices.
As you can see, the One Mini 2 is expected to launch in gunmetal grey, silver, and gold color variations – at least at first. More options may come a few months after it hits the market. Something like this has been already rumored to happen to the full-size One M8, by the way. The yellow accents you see in the live image above may or may not make it to a production version of the phone – it’s unclear right now. They may have just been there for prototype testing purposes.
Like last year’s One Mini, the One Mini 2 is actually pretty different on the inside from the device it will complement in HTC’s lineup. Gone are the top notch specs of the One M8, instead once again what we get with the ‘Mini’ is a midranger – though a pretty decent one nevertheless.
The One M8’s Duo Camera is gone, something that’s obviously apparent when you look at the new One Mini’s back. In its place we have a ‘normal’, non-UltraPixel 13 MP snapper that might actually be preferred by many when compared to the unit inside the flagship. Oh, and the dual-LED flash of the One M8 has also been downgraded to a single-LED assembly.
Other rumored specs for the HTC One Mini 2 include a 4.5-inch 720p HD touchscreen, a 5 MP front camera, a 1.4 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, and it should run Android 4.4 KitKat with HTC Sense 6 on top. Like in the case of the One M8, it will have software-rendered Android buttons on the screen.
