Huawei Honor 3X Pro leaks with Samsung-like faux leather back

Huawei is prepping a new, higher-end version of its Honor 3X smartphone. The Honor 3X was launched in China last year alongside the Honor 3C, and got a cheaper version a couple of months ago. The Honor line was basically created to fight the increasing threat posed by Xiaomi, and the cheaper Honor 3X model was put out as a response to the Redmi Note.

The new device will probably be called Honor 3X Pro, and a few images showing its back have been leaked on Weibo, the Chinese Twitter. What’s striking about it, as you can see, is its back cover – and the incredible likeness it has to that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The faux leather finish is there, and so is the fake stitching across the edges.

It’s clear that the Note 3 line ‘inspired’ Huawei’s design in this case. It is usually the Chinese clone makers who do this kind of stuff, and it’s a (very) rare occurrence to see a brand-name Chinese smartphone maker ape something from a bigger competitor like this.

Anyway, on to specs. You can expect the Huawei Honor 3X Pro to come with a 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front camera, a 1.7 GHz octa-core MediaTek processor (MT6592), 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and it will obviously run Android, though which exact version is unknown at the moment.

The Honor 3X Pro is apparently going to be priced at 1,699 yuan, which at the current exchange rates means about $272 or €195. That’s the exact price at which the original Honor 3X launched, and compared to that the only improvement in the Pro model seems to be the screen resolution, which is up from 720p. And there’s also that Samsung-like faux leather back cover, of course. Let’s not forget about that.
