Kyocera Hydro Vibe announced for Sprint and Virgin Mobile
Sprint has unveiled a new smartphone today, the Kyocera Hydro Vibe. This rugged offering will be added to Virgin Mobile’s portfolio as well in the near future.
The Vibe is the latest in the series of Hydro-branded water and dust resistant smartphones from Kyocera. It comes with IP57 protection against dust and water. The “5” in there means it’s “dust protected”, or rather “ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact (dust proof)”. On to water resistance, the Kyocera Hydro Vibe can withstand being immersed in water up to 1 m deep for up to 30 minutes.
The handset has a 4.5-inch 540×960 IPS touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash and 1080p Full HD video recording, a 2 MP front camera, a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (MSM8926), 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, wireless charging, and a 2,000 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Its dimensions are 127.4×63.5×10.9 mm, and it weighs 139 grams.
The Kyocera Hydro Vibe will be available at Sprint on May 9 (that’s this Friday). With Sprint Easy Pay, you’ll be able to get it for $0 upfront, then followed by 24 monthly payments of $9.59.
At Virgin Mobile, the handset will make its debut on May 27, and it will be priced at $149.99. Obviously in this case you won’t be required to sign a two-year contract, since Virgin is a prepaid brand.
