64 GB OnePlus One will be out in late May, earlier than previously anticipated
Last week, the team behind the OnePlus One smartphone told us a few things about their production schedule. Back then, the company expected to have a large batch of 16 GB units ready for shipping in mid to late May, followed by a batch of 64 GB models in early June.
Things have been changed, though. And that’s because apparently a lot more people are interested in purchasing the 64 GB OnePlus One compared to the 16 GB device, more than the company anticipated. But this makes perfect sense, when you consider that the price premium for going from 16 GB to 64 GB is just $50. A similar jump in storage capacity for the iPhone 5S costs $200. Couple that with the fact that the OnePlus One doesn’t have a microSD card slot for expanding that built-in storage, and you see why the 64 GB version is the more popular.
So OnePlus decided to prioritize the production of this particular SKU. Which means that the production schedule has been altered, and we should actually expect the first batch of devices out of the Chinese company to be 64 GB units. These will come in late May to early June. Later in June we’ll see “increased general availability” of both models, so that most people who want one should be able to receive an invite to buy one.
