LG Isai FL unveiled as the G3 for Japan

Since we’re just a few weeks away from the official announcement of the LG G3, we’re seeing many leaks about that device each day. Now though, we’re taking a short break from all that because LG just announced what is basically a version of its next flagship.

The LG Isai FL has been made official by KDDI, one of Japan’s carriers. Given the specs it comes with, it’s almost certainly Japan’s very own variant of the upcoming G3. That said, you shouldn’t assume that the G3 will look exactly like this Isai FL. It’s a lot more likely for LG to go with a design reminiscent of the G2 from last year for its international flagship. Since the Isai FL is exclusive to the Japanese market, it’s plausible that the Korean company took into account Japanese trends when designing it.

The Isai FL is a beast, that’s for sure. It comes with a 5.5-inch 2,560×1,440 (QHD) IPS touchscreen with 538 ppi pixel density (just like the one the G3 has been rumored to get), a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 1.3 MP front camera, a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, 150 Mbps 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and a 3,000 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat. Its dimensions are 145x76x10.5 mm and it weighs 160 grams.

It will be offered in white, blue, and pink. Like almost all flagship Android smartphones sold in Japan, it’s waterproof too (though that may not necessarily translate into the G3’s specs).

As you can see, the LG Isai FL has incredibly narrow bezels on three sides of the screen, a design feature that makes it pretty pocketable despite the rather gigantic display (at least for a mainstream handset). LG’s G2 had narrow bezels too, so it’s a safe bet that the G3 will go that route as well, though whether it will reach the level of bezel minimization seen in the Isai FL remains to be seen. We’re betting on the top bezel being a bit bigger in the G3, just for the sake of continuity from the G2’s design if nothing else.

The G3 has already been confirmed to come with all buttons on the back, something which the Isai FL lacks, so once again don’t expect the international model to look like this. That said, the specs should be incredibly similar, if not identical.
