Huawei Ascend P7 is much cheaper in China than it will be in other countries

Huawei unveiled the Ascend P7 a couple of days ago. The Chinese company then told us that the handset would be out before the end of this month, and the recommended retail price would be €449.

However, it looks like that amount is only valid for countries other than China. In its home market, Huawei has priced the Ascend P7 much lower. This has surfaced on the company’s official online store. The Ascend P7 will cost 2,888 yuan. That’s about €336 at the current exchange rate, so we’re looking at a discount of around €120 – more than a 25% price cut.

Huawei Ascend P7 priced in China

This, however, can easily be explained. Aside from being the world’s biggest smartphone market, China is the most competitive as well. It’s almost like every day a new handset launches that breaks all previous price slash performance ratios. So Huawei is facing a lot of tough competition over there, plus there’s also the fact that since the Ascend P7 is made in China, there will be no import taxes to pay – and shipping costs should be significantly smaller than to other parts of the world.

So the Chinese once again get all the nice stuff for cheap. It’s probably time for us to get used to this situation.
