International Huawei Ascend P6 will only get KitKat in June
Huawei might be bringing a few interesting smartphones to international markets from time to time, but the Chinese company is really bad at software updates. This has always been the case since it joined the Android camp, and unfortunately it looks like things haven’t changed a bit.
Remember the Huawei Ascend P6? This handset, while not technically the company’s flagship offering for last year, went on to be what we assume was its best seller outside of China. Undoubtedly, that was thanks to its incredibly slim design as well as its affordable price. And not because of any promises of future software support.
But back in November, Huawei did say that the Ascend P6 would receive the latest version of Android before the end of January 2014. Yet here we are in mid-May and that update is nowhere to be seen on the internationally-sold Ascend P6. To make things even worse, the company now expects to have the update out in ‘early June’.
If that is actually going to pan out (and given Huawei’s track record we’re really doubtful), it means the Ascend P6 will get Android 4.4 KitKat seven months after it was launched. That has to be a new negative record for a best selling smartphone.
