Cheap, low-end ZTE Concord II launches for T-Mobile and MetroPCS

ZTE has announced a new smartphone today, and it’s a budget offering that’s been created specially for T-Mobile and MetroPCS. It’s called ZTE Concord II, and is supposedly the follow-up to the original Concord from 2012.

The ZTE Concord II should become available at T-Mobile today, and it will be offered by MetroPCS too starting on May 19 (that’s next Monday, by the way). The second Concord doesn’t excel at the spec game, but should prove worthy of attention for someone seeking her or his first smartphone.

It comes with a 4-inch 480×800 touchscreen with Gorilla Glass 2, a 5 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (MSM8210), 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of built-in storage space, a microSD card slot, and a 1,820 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Given the fact that support for LTE networks wasn’t mentioned once in the official press release, we’re assuming this one will be a 3G-only device. At T-Mobile, the Concord II has shed the ZTE branding and is going as the T-Mobile Concord II – though it’s still listed as out of stock. It’s been priced at $120 on prepaid (though after purchasing a refill card and a SIM starter kit you’re up to $160). We’re assuming that MetroPCS’ price will be somewhat (if not entirely) similar.
