Super high-end HTC M8 Prime coming too, details leaked
Samsung has long been rumored to be developing a Galaxy S5 Prime handset, basically a higher-end version of the Galaxy S5 that’s currently its flagship Android smartphone. And with each day that goes by, we hear more about it, thus we assume there’s some truth to all the hype and rumors.
But Samsung apparently isn’t the only company working on a super-premium flagship. HTC may be joining in the fun too. According to famous leaker of all things mobile @evleaks, there’s an HTC M8 Prime in the works too. This will obviously top the One M8 in specs, but it’s even going to come with a new casing material.
The HTC M8 Prime should arrive later this year with a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, a 5.5-inch 2,560×1,440 (QHD) touchscreen, and 3 GB of RAM. That puts it squarely on par with the LG G3, going by that handset’s latest set of leaked specs. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime will be identical too, save for its slightly smaller screen, at 5.2 inches diagonally. This will ensure that it gets the pixel density crown, and will possibly keep it for a long time to come, since we haven’t heard of anyone else developing QHD displays smaller than 5.5 inches.
With the Snapdragon 805 chip comes support for Cat 6 LTE, which means theoretical download speeds of up to 300 Mbps. Obviously though, your carrier will have to support something like this for it to actually matter in real life. We’ll have to wait and see what happens on that front.
The M8 Prime has a couple of other tricks up its sleeve too, in order to differentiate itself from its two competitors (the aforementioned Galaxy S5 Prime and G3). It will be made out of an ‘exotic’ material, a composite of aluminum and liquid silicone. Or rather, Al-SiC (Aluminum-Silicon Carbide), which combines “the benefits of high thermal conductivity of metal and low coefficient of thermal expansion of ceramic”. More details about this material can be found here (via @flapic).
Last, but definitely not least, the HTC M8 Prime is said to be catching up to Sony’s and Samsung’s latest flagships and be the Taiwanese company’s first waterproof smartphone. Sony’s been doing this for a while, and Samsung’s just started with the Galaxy S5 (and it may also make the S5 Prime waterproof too).
So there you have it – all we know right now about the beast that will be the M8 Prime. Between it, the Galaxy S5 Prime, and the G3, you’ll soon be very much spoiled for choice if you want a new high-end device.
