HTC M8 Ace comes with “beautiful curves”, shown in first leaked image

The HTC M8 Ace has been rumored to be a slightly different take on the flagship device compared to the already available One M8. In this case, the Taiwanese company has been said to give up on using aluminum for the handset’s casing, instead choosing plastic just like Samsung for its Galaxy S5.

In fact, the M8 Ace is basically supposed to be a ‘Galaxy S5 killer’, coming with virtually identical specs but supposedly being offered for less money. And today we get to take the first look at the upcoming HTC M8 Ace, via the first ever leaked image showing it.

That’s… quite curvy. And colorful. In fact, HTC itself has started teasing a new handset on its official Twitter account. The first tweet on the matter says “more beautiful curves coming soon”, and the M8 Ace’s curves definitely seem to be what the company is referring to.

If that’s the case, this wouldn’t even be the first teaser campaign run by HTC for the M8 Ace. Earlier this month we told you about a similar thing already going on in China, which is undoubtedly going to be one of HTC’s main focus markets for this handset – given how it’s a country that simply loves affordable yet high-spec smartphones (and the M8 Ace should be both).

According to unnamed sources speaking to ifanr.com, the device you can see above, the M8 Ace, is not the Butterfly 2 that’s also been rumored lately. The HTC One M8 has a rather conservative and understated design, and the M8 Ace will complement it in HTC’s portfolio with a focus on fashion and being fashionable, with nice curves and bold colors. And the red version definitely seems bold.

Previous rumors and leaks had the HTC M8 Ace coming with a 5-inch 1080p Full HD touchscreen, and a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. This is a tad odd, seeing as how the HTC One M8′s Snapdragon 801 is only clocked at 2.3 GHz, and the M8 Ace should be cheaper – while offering more performance. Then again, something else may be at play here. Maybe HTC wants to match the Galaxy S5′s specs to the letter, or perhaps there were some thermal issues with putting the 2.5 GHz part into the aluminum One M8.

One thing looks clear, though – the Duo Camera setup from the One M8 is gone in the M8 Ace, as well as the dual-LED dual-tone flash. Both of these ‘dual’ things in the One M8 are just ‘single’ ones in the M8 Ace, according to the render above. In terms of camera resolution, nothing has been leaked yet, but we may see a 13 MP unit just like in the recently unveiled One Mini 2.
