Acer CloudMobile to be launched in North America with Android 4.1 ICS

Acer’s latest Android smartphone, the oddly named CloudMobile, which recently won an iF design award, should be released first in North America and China (starting the third quarter of this year) – at least that’s what DigiTimes is claiming. There is no carrier-specific info, so for now we don’t know if the handset will come to the US, or Canada, or both.

DigiTimes is also saying that the Acer CloudMobile will be launched with Android 4.1 Ice Cream Sandwich on board, not 4.0 ICS as previously reported.

The new Acer CloudMobile should be less than 10mm thick, featuring a 4.3 inch HD (1280 x 720) display, 1.4GHz dual-core processor, HSPA+, Dolby Mobile sound, and AcerCloud services. Acer will unveil more details on the smartphone at MWC 2012 later this month. And we’ll be there to find them out.

Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Acer Iconia Tab A200 rolling out now?

Back in January, Acer said that it would update its Iconia Tab A200 to Android Ice Cream Sandwich starting mid-February. And it looks like the company is keeping its promise, si several users are reporting over at the Acer Tablet Forum that the update (which brings Android 4.0.3) is available as of yesterday.

Of course, the update is being rolled-out gradually, so you A200 might not have received it yet. But you can always check manually for it (go to Settings / About tablet / System update / Check now).

Already available in Europe and the US, the Acer Iconia Tab A200 features a 1.GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra processor, 1GB of RAM, 10.1 inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with hotspot capability, 2MP front-facing camera, 8GB or 16GB of internal memory, and MicroSD card support.

Acer has sold quite a few different smartphone models over the years, and most of those were powered by Android recently. However, the company’s offerings were never best sellers in any category or price point. It’s safe to say that Acer has so far failed to attract the masses to its smartphones.

But that may all change in the near future. Acer is set to announce a new Android-powered smartphone during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of this month, and this will be the company’s flagship device for this year.

The Acer CloudMobile has apparently already won an iF design award, and we have to agree that it looks nice. The CloudMobile will be in stores in the third quarter of this year (so somewhere between July and September), and it will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich thankfully.

The handset will also come with a 4.3-inch HD touchscreen, Dolby sound, and will be less than 10 mm thin. As its name certainly implies, this smartphone will come with AcerCloud tech which “enhances mobile productivity by providing seamless document management”. Yeah, that.

This is everything we know about the Acer CloudMobile so far. But if this does get announced at MWC, we’ll know a lot more then.

Acer’s quad-core Iconia Tab A700 priced at €549?

Officially unveiled at CES earlier this month, Acer’s latest high-end Android tablet – the Iconia Tab A700 – should be launched in the second quarter of the year.

We didn’t know anything about its price until now, when Tablet Test (website in German) claims that the new tablet will cost about €549 in Europe.

€549 is the price for the Iconia Tab A700 16GB. The 64GB version will reportedly cost €749.

The Iconia Tab A700 features Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 10.1 inch display with 1920 x 1200 pixels, quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor clocked at 1.3GHz, Wi-Fi, 5MP rear camera, front-facing camera, HDMI port, and a 9,800 mAh battery.

Acer’s other new quad-core Android tablet, the Iconia Tab A510, should also be released in Europe in the second quarter of the year (apparently in April). Prices for the A510 will start at €500, because its screen resolution (1280 x 800 pixels) is lower than what you get on the A700.

Showcased earlier this month at CES 2012 as Acer’s second quad-core Android tablet (after the Iconia Tab A700), the Iconia Tab A510 will reportedly be available in Europe soon.

According to TabletCommunity.de, Acer held a press event in Germany recently, where it unveiled that the new Iconia should be launched in Europe in April. Apparently, the tablet will be priced at about €500.

Unlike the A700, which has a 10.1 inch display with 1920 x 1200 pixels, the A510 only comes with a 1280 x 800 pixels screen (which still measures 10.1 inches). Other than that, the device features a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, Dolby Mobile sound, two cameras (on the front and on the back, of course), and 16GB of internal memory (but there will probably be 32GB and 64GB versions as well).

The Acer Iconia Tab A510 will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich from day one. It remains to be seen when (or if) the tablet will be officially released in North America.

Acer Iconia Tab A200 now available at Best Buy USA

Acer’s affordable Iconia Tab A200 tablet was supposed to be released in the US on January 15. However, it’s only now (January 20) that it’s actually available for purchase.

Only Best Buy seems to have the Iconia Tab A200 in stock for the moment. The retailer is asking $349.99 for the tablet’s 16GB model – go here to buy it. The 8GB model, which should cost $329.99, is not available yet (but I assume it will be soon).

The Acer Iconia Tab A200 features a 10.1 inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels, Wi-Fi, Facebook and Twitter integration, USB (full size), 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 2MP front-facing camera. The tablet currently runs Android 3.2 Honeycomb, but it will be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich starting mid February.

The Iconia Tab A700 isn’t the only new Ice Cream Sandwich tablet that Acer brought to CES 2012. Meet the Acer Iconia Tab A510, which, just like the A700, comes with an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor (1.3GHz).

The Iconia Tab A510 features a 10.1 inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels, rear and front-facing cameras, micro HDMI, Dolby Mobile sound, 3.5mm headset jack, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory.

For the moment, there’s no word on when the A510 will be released, and neither for what price.

ZTE has also showcased an Nvidia 3 quad-core tablet with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The tablet hasn’t got a name yet, and features a 7 inch display of unknown resolution.

Quad-core Acer Iconia Tab A700 with Android ICS showcased at CES 2012

As expected, Acer has brought its newest Android tablet to CES 2012: the Iconia Tab A700, which was first spotted at the end of December.

The Iconia Tab A700 runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and comes with some of Acer’s own software customization, including Acer Ring and some widgets.

Measuring 9.8mm in thinness, the new A700 features a 10.1 inch display with 1920 x 1200 pixels, 1.3GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headset jack, HDMI, 5MP rear camera, front-facing camera, and MicroSD card support.

Acer plans to launch the Iconia Tab A700 in the second quarter of the year. The tablet’s price is not known at the moment, but I assume it will be on par with the price of Asus’ Transformer Prime ($500 – $600).

The Acer Iconia Tab A200 will become available in the US on January 15. The Iconia Tab A200 is Acer’s new 10.1-inch Android tablet that aims to put its affordability front and center. That however doesn’t mean it’s underpowered or anything like that – just one year ago, this would have been the tablet to drool over. In fact, most of its specs are on par with most of the other Android-powered tablets out there at the moment.

And now that Acer has announced its price, the A200 has turned into the first seriously affordable 10-inch Android tablet – something we should have seen a lot more of over the past year.

The Acer Iconia Tab A200 will cost $329.99 (for 8 GB of built-in storage), or $349.99 (with 16 GB of storage). These are recommended prices, so some retailers may even go lower. And at around $300, this tablet is $200 cheaper than the cheapest Apple iPad. At that price point, Acer is pretty much certain to sell a whole lot of these.

Quad-core processors may be where it’s at in the Android tablet space this year, but the Iconia Tab A200 will probably be better-selling than most of the high-end tablets which will get unveiled over the next couple of months, and for a simple reason: price.

It’s nice to finally see one Android tablet maker understand that you can’t really compete with Apple (at least not at first) with same-price offerings. Go lower in price, and people will start noticing you. After all, the truth in the computer space has always been that most of the people who can afford an Apple product buy one.

So while the Iconia Tab A200 certainly won’t be winning in any benchmarks, it might just be in sales numbers. We’ll have to wait and see of course. But if you’ve always wanted an affordable 10-inch tablet running Android, this is it. And in ten days you’ll be able to get one.

Oh, and to make things even better for would-be owners of the Iconia Tab A200, Acer has also announced that the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the tablet will be out in mid-February. Something to boast over during MWC, surely. Right now, the A200 runs Honeycomb, but about a month from now it will be the most affordable decently-specced 10-inch Android tablet, and one of the first to be updated to the latest version of the OS. If that’s not a winning combination, we don’t know what is.

That rumored Acer Iconia Tab A700 tablet has been finally spotted in some photos, allowing us to see that it doesn’t look too different from the already announced Iconia Tab A200.

Unlike the A200, though, the A700 has a camera on the back (5MP with flash), a quad-core processor (Nvidia Tegra 3), and a 10.1 inch display with a higher resolution: 1920 x 1200 pixels (WUXGA).

Other features: 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, 3.5mm headset jack, Dolby Mobile sound, MicroUSB, Micro HDMI, front-facing camera, and a 9,800 mAh battery.

Acer should officially announce the Iconia Tab A700 at CES 2012 (10 – 13 January). Since the A200 comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the A700 will most likely run ICS, too.

If you’re in the UK and have been waiting for Acer’s new and affordable Android tablet to become available, the wait is finally over. With a slight caveat.

The Acer Iconia Tab A200, which was announced at the beginning of this month, can now be ordered in the UK. It is quite a bit cheaper than similar tablets, but it will be shipping “by January 6, 2012″. We don’t know if that “by” in there is supposed to mean that there’s a small chance you’ll get it earlier than January 6, but we wouldn’t risk hoping for that. So just assume it will be at your doorstep in ten days.

As for the price, it’s £299 as you can see, which is about £100 cheaper than similarly specced tablets. That said, those similar offerings do usually come with 16 GB of built-in storage, whereas the Iconia Tab A200 only has 8 GB. And it doesn’t have a rear camera, like the competition (yet it does come with a front-facing unit for video calls and such). So take that into account when deciding whether to purchase one or not.

Because aside from that, this is basically your run of the mill Android tablet. The Nvidia Tegra 2 processor is in there, as are 1 GB of RAM, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth support, a 10.1-inch 1280×800 touchscreen, a microSD card slot, and a 3.5 mm headset jack.

Acer will continue to make tablets, despite rumors to the contrary

Acer founder Stan Shih has recently responded to rumors which had it that the company would exit the tablet market. According to Shih, this will not happen, despite the fact that Acer’s tablets have “not performed well” (sales-wise).

The Taiwanese company will also keep on launching smartphones alongside tablets, but while making “optimal adjustments to decrease the number of product models for selective and strategic input of operational resources.”

Acer’s latest tablet is the 10 inch Iconia Tab A200, which will run Android Ice Cream Sandwich starting next year. Acer presented the A200 as an affordable tablet. Its price will be about $470 in Russia – however, it costs only $350 in Australia.

As for the company’s latest smartphone, this is the Acer Allegro W4, which doesn’t run Android, but Windows Phone Mango.

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is currently in the process of receiving not one, but two different software updates. Sadly, none of them contain Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but they do come with some neat stuff.

First of all, you’ll get the absolute latest version of the Android Market (3.4.4). Then there are also many UI fixes and improvements which make operating the tablet simply faster. The speeding up can also be seen in the keyboard.

It’s unclear at the moment if either of these updates (7.014.01, and 7.014.02, respectively) breaks root, so in case your Iconia Tab does have root, perhaps you should hold off on installing the updates until you can be sure you’ll be able to get root access back.

Acer Iconia Tab A200 priced at $470 (in Russia)

The Iconia Tab A200 was officially announced at the beginning of this month, and, although Acer said the tablet had started shipping in select markets, we haven’t heard anything regarding its price.

Well, according to Mobile-review, the A200 (16GB version) will cost 14,990 rubles in Russia when it arrives there in February 2012.

That’s about $470 in US dollars, so probably Acer will want to match the price of the Asus Transformer Prime ($499) when it launches its new tablet in North America.

Like the Asus Transformer Prime, the Acer Iconia Tab A200 will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich starting next year. The new Iconia doesn’t have a quad-core processor, though, but only a dual-core one (1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2). Other features include: 10.1 inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, full size USB port, 1GB of RAM, and a 2MP front-facing camera (there’s no rear camera at all).

That Acer Iconia Tab A200 which we’ve been seeing around in the last few weeks has been officially announced today. Presented as a tablet that “comes at a very affordable price”, the new A200 is currently running Android 3.2 Honeycomb.

According to Acer, shipments of the Iconia Tab A200 have already started “in select countries.” There’s no word on its exact price, though.

Measuring 260 x 175 x 12.4 mm and weighing 720 grams, the Iconia Tab A200 features a 10.1 inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels, 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headset jack, Acer SocialJogger (with Facebook and Twitter integration), full-size USB port, 2MP front-facing camera, 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, MicroSD card support, and 8GB / 16GB of internal memory. It looks like the new tablet has no rear camera at all.

Starting January 2012, the A200 will be shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Users who are buying the tablet with Android 3.2 Honeycomb will obviously be able to update it to ICS.

Acer Iconia Tab A200 promo video leak shows full size USB port

Acer is getting ready to release a new Android tablet, that’s clear. It will be called Iconia Tab A200, and we’ve already written about it twice this month. It got both its Bluetooth certification, as well as the FCC’s approval, and it turns out it’s a 10-inch tablet despite its model number being closer to the 7-inch A100 than the previously launched 10-inch A500.

Acer already has the first promo video ready for the new tablet, and this has been leaked. The video highlights the fact that the Iconia Tab A200 is a great way to consume multimedia content, especially thanks to its full size USB port.

The Acer Iconia Tab A200 will probably be the company’s cheaper 10-inch offering for the next few months. Rumored specs include an Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor (so not the newer, quad-core Tegra 3), 1280×800 resolution, Bluetooth, and a microSD card slot. Interestingly, the video doesn’t mention an A201 model, which would be the 3G-enabled version of this tablet if Acer sticks to the naming scheme it used with the A500/A501. That may mean that there won’t be a 3G version, or that Acer simply hasn’t mentioned it yet (so it will launch later).

It’s unclear which OS version the Iconia Tab A200 will launch with. It will obviously be either Android 3.x Honeycomb, or Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Though if this is going to be a lower-end model (at least compared to whatever else Acer has in store for us in the near future), we’re willing to bet it will be Honeycomb. But we’d really like to be proven wrong on this one. We’ll see.

Acer leaks its upcoming Iconia Tab A700/A701 with Tegra 3 quad-core and Full HD touchscreen

With everyone and their dog launching Android-powered tablets these days, it’s no surprise that we have yet another leak about such an upcoming product (or duo of products). What is a little bit less ordinary is when a manufacturer leaks the existence of such a device itself. That usually happens either by mistake or through negligence, and it’s still a rare thing to see.

Well, get ready for such a rarity. Acer has posted a profile of the Iconia Tab A701 on its servers. This was promptly found by HDBlog.it and made public. The profile lets us know that the tablet will come with Nvidia’s new quad-core Tegra 3 processor. But the nice tidbit here is that the A701 will also have a touchscreen with a resolution of 1920×1200. That’s keeping with the Honeycomb aspect ratio of 16:10 and taking the resolution up a notch to 1080p Full HD, and we can only assume what insane pixel density that means.

Assume because unfortunately the leaked profile says nothing about the screen’s size, so there’s still a (slim) possibility that Acer is trying something out of the ordinary and launching, say, a 12-inch tablet (and considering the A500/A501 pair is 10-inch, that might make some sense if you look at the model numbers alone). What’s pretty clear is that the A701 will be the 3G-enabled version, while an A700 will be out for those of you satisfied by just having Wi-Fi. That’s consistent with Acer’s A500/A501 track record, of course.

So apparently 2012 is set to be the year of the Full HD tablets (alongside quad-core processors, which we’ve known about for many months now). That’s a nice surprise if it turns out to be real. And something of a natural progression, now that 720p HD touchscreens have reached cellphone sizes.

The Acer Liquid Express has been ‘coming soon’ to Orange UK ever since September. Almost two months is certainly a long time to be in that state, but Acer’s newest Android smartphone is finally here. Orange now has the Liquid Express in stock, and ready to order.

The operator offers the handset with a variety of plans. To get the phone for free, you’ll need to go with Orange’s recommended £20.50 per month plan or a more expensive one. The £20.50 per month option gives you 300 minutes and unlimited texts, or 100 minutes, unlimited texts, and 500 MB of data. If you need more minutes or a bigger data allowance, you should know that the available plans go all the way up to £41 per month, in which case you’ll get 900 minutes, unlimited texts, and 1 GB of data.

If you’re ready to make a purchase, head over to Orange. The Acer Liquid Express has a 3.5-inch 320×480 touchscreen, a 5 MP autofocus camera with LED flash, an 800 MHz processor, Wi-Fi, HSPA, Bluetooth, GPS, and microSD card support. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Acer Allegro W4, the company’s first Windows Phone Mango handset, will be available in the UK starting next month.

Expansys is currently taking pre-orders for the handset, asking £259.99 (€305 or $415) for an unlocked unit, and promising to deliver it on December 1.

After having made its way both to the UK and the US via AT&T, the Acer Iconia Tab A501 has now landed at Rogers in Canada. Or better said, on Rogers’ network, since it’s not sold by the carrier directly.

Acer Iconia Tab A200 goes through the FCC, may have a 10-inch screen

A few days ago we first heard about the upcoming Acer Iconia Tab A200. This tablet then got its Bluetooth certification, and was even featured in a blurry picture. And that was it. Today we have some more information, even if we’re still missing most of the details.

The Iconia Tab A200 has passed through the FCC’s labs and it looks set to achieve all possible certifications in a very short period of time – which may mean it’s going to launch soon.

The only details about the tablet that the FCC let slip have to do with its measurements. And judging by those, the A200 will probably come with a 10-inch screen, or perhaps an 8.9-inch display and a very big bezel.

That kind of puts to rest our speculation that this may be a successor to the 7-inch A100. But then again that would have been odd, since the A100 has only been on the market for a short while.

So there you have it then. The pieces of this puzzle are starting to fall into place one by one. They are small pieces though up until now, so we’re hoping we’ll see a bigger leak in the near future. We’ll keep you posted.

The holiday shopping season is near, and as such many phone and tablet makers are getting ready to launch new products. One of those seems to be Acer, which interestingly has a new tablet in the works.

The Acer Iconia Tab A200 has received Bluetooth certification, and with that honor came the first (tiny) picture of this tablet, thankfully. It’s the first time we’re hearing about the A200, and unfortunately the Bluetooth SIG isn’t helpful when it comes to specs, so we’ll have to speculate for now.

The Iconia Tab A200 may be the successor to the 7-inch A100, although that would be a bit odd, since the A100 hasn’t been out for long. Then again, nowdays successors are being launched only a few months after the devices that they’re supposed to replace on the market, so don’t discard this possibility altogether.

The other option is that the A200 is bigger than the A100, and smaller than the A500 (that much we can gather from the model numbers). Could this be an 8-inch or 8.9-inch offering from Acer? We’ll probably find out soon enough. Now that it’s been leaked for the first time, expect other info to come at a rather fast pace, for that’s what usually happens in the mobile world.

If you like bargain basement prices, here’s something for you. Do note though that you’ll also need to love old smartphones.

Well known UK-based retailer Expansys is having a clearance sale of sorts for a few Acer smartphones. You can now get three different devices for just £79.99. SIM-free and unlocked, in case you were wondering. So yes, extremely cheap. However, none of these handsets was launched this year. In fact two of them are from 2009. If you’re still reading, here are the details.

The phones in question are the Acer Liquid, the Acer beTouch E110, and the Acer Tempo X960. That last one runs Windows Mobile 6.1. The other two run Android, but old versions of it as you’d expect.

The Acer Liquid runs Android 1.6 and has a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 3.5-inch 800×480 touchscreen, a 5 MP camera, microSD card support, Bluetooth, HSPA, GPS, Wi-Fi, 256 MB of RAM, 512 MB of ROM, and a 1,350 mAh battery. Expansys offers it in either white or red. The good news (if you can call it that) is that you might be able to upgrade the Liquid’s OS to Android 2.1. Which is still very old, but at least it’s newer than the positively ancient 1.6.

And speaking of ancient, the Acer beTouch E110 runs Android 1.5. The handset has a 416 MHz processor, 256 MB of RAM, 256 MB of ROM, a 3 MP camera, a 2.8-inch 240×320 touchscreen, HSPA, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 1,500 mAh battery. If you’re interested, you can pick one up from Expansys here.

The Acer Tempo X960 has a 533 MHz processor, 128 MB of RAM, 256 MB of ROM, a 2.8-inch 480×640 resistive touchscreen, HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, microSD card support, and a 3 MP camera. You can get one from Expansys over here.

Acer W4 Allegro gets announced in France, runs Windows Phone, will be out in November for €299

A few weeks ago, Acer apparently announced its first Windows Phone, the Allegro. ‘Apparently’ because that announcement only contained the pricing information. Sure, that’s nice to have, but on its own it’s pretty useless. We have assumed that the Allegro was the Acer W4 that was leaked a couple of times earlier this year, and that turned out to be true.

Acer has officially unveiled the Allegro in France today, and this time it’s a proper announcement with all the necessary details. First of all, you should know that the price will indeed be €299, just like we heard before.

The Acer Allegro is the lowest-end Windows Phone possible. That’s because it adheres to exactly the minimum required specs as outlined by Microsoft, and adds nothing more than that. Which is obviously how Acer is able to achieve that price. This phone will be a bit cheaper than Nokia’s Lumia 710, however that smartphone tops the Acer spec-wise, so it will be an interesting fight between these devices at the low end of the WP spectrum (which is actually the lower-midrange of the market nowdays).

The Acer Allegro has a 1 GHz single-core processor, a 5 MP autofocus camera with LED flash, a 3.6-inch 800×480 touchscreen, 8 GB of built-in storage, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 1,300 mAh battery.

The Acer Allegro will become available in France in white or blue in mid-November, and will probably make its way to other European markets before the end of the year. So it will have the advantage of hitting the market sooner than the Lumia 710. As for how well it will do sales-wise, that remains to be seen.

Acer’s Iconia tablets to receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in January

Ever since Google unveiled Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich last week, reports have started coming in about the various Android device makers’ timelines for updating their respective products to the now newest version of Google’s mobile operating system. And while we still haven’t heard many concrete announcements, this is obviously something that every company is considering right now. In the following weeks we’ll probably know all there is to know about their promises, and then the waiting game begins.

Anyway, Acer may be one of the first to the market with updates for tablets. According to Tablet-Online.pl, Acer Poland has said that the updates to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its Iconia tablets (the 7-inch A100, and the 10.1-inch A500 and A501) will arrive in January of 2012. That seems far away now, sure, but the truth is that this may prove to be one of the more timely updates to ICS, if Acer sticks to this timeline. These things get delayed often, so if you own an Iconia tablet, keep your fingers crossed.

One thing’s certain. The Iconia line will not be updated to ICS this year. So in case you were hoping for that, you’ll be disappointed. Still, Acer has to be commended for speaking about this so soon, and having an actual timeline no less.

We initially saw the Acer Iconia Smart S300 back in Febuary. Today, the Acer Iconia Smart S300 hit the FCC and got the full FCC teardown treatment.

This behemoth of a device features a 4.8-inch screen with 1024 x 480 resolution. The Iconia Smart S300 also spots a single core 1GHz MSM8255 SnapDragon processor, Android 2.3, 512MB of SDRAM, microSD card expandable up to 32GB, GSM/WCDMA network support, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera, and a 8 megapixel camera in the rear.

We don’t have an exact release date or price, but the FCC teardown is a good indication that the device will head to the US in the near future. We will keep you updated on the status of the Acer Iconia Smart S300.

HTC Radar and Acer Allegro with Windows Phone Mango announced in India

Not long after Samsung announced its new Omnia W for the Indian market, we’re now hearing that two other Windows Phone Mango handsets are going to be launched there soon: the HTC Radar and the Acer Allegro.

Like the Omnia W, both the HTC Radar and the Acer Allegro will become available starting November.

The HTC Radar will be sold for 23,990 INR (about $489), coming with a 3.8 inch S-LCD WVGA Gorilla Glass display, HSPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3.5mm headset jack, 5MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 512MB of internal memory, 1GHz single-core processor, and 8GB of internal memory.

The Acer Allegro’s price for India is not known at the moment. However, we know that the handset should cost €300 in Europe (that’s about 20,000 INR). Most likely, the Allegro is the Acer W4, so it should feature a 3.6 inch WVGA display, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, GPS, 5MP camera, and a 1GHz processor.

Acer Allegro with Windows Phone Mango to cost only €299

Acer has reportedly announced the Acer Allegro – a new smartphone which runs Windows Phone Mango and should be launched in Europe “before Christmas.”

Telecompaper has it that the Allegro will cost only €299 – this would certainly make it one of the most affordable Mango handsets on the market.

Although Acer didn’t confirm this, I assume the Allegro is the previously spotted Acer W4 (pictured below). If that’s the case, the handset features a 3.6 inch WVGA display, HSPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, 1GHz single-core processor, and a 5MP rear camera.

Acer has also announced that the Liquid Mini Ferrari Edition (which we’ve already seen) would also cost €299. The Liquid Mini Ferrari Edition runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and features a 3.2 inch HVGA display, 5MP camera, 8GB of internal memory, and a 600MHz processor. It should be out before the end of the year.

Orange UK is getting ready to launch another Android smartphone, namely the Acer C6 Liquid Express.

Also known as Acer E320, the C6 Liquid Express runs Android Gingerbread, and is a mid-end device. It features a 3.5 inch HVGA display, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, 3.5mm headset jack, 5MP camera, and an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM Turbo processor.

Orange UK will offer the Acer C6 Liquid Express for free on select plans, possibly starting later this month (when the operator should also launch the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray).

AT&T’s Acer Iconia Tab 501 officially arriving this week

Initially announced by AT&T way back in March, the Acer Iconia Tab 501 is now finally ready for launch. AT&T has just unveiled that thew tablet will be sold starting this Sunday, September 18.

The carrier will sell the Iconia Tab 501 for $479.99 outright, or for $329.99 with a new 2-y contract agreement ($35 monthly plan required – includes 3GB of data).

The Acer Iconia Tab 501 isn’t the mot groundbreaking tablet around, but for under $500 it’s certainly worth your attention. Acer W4 with Windows Phone Mango and Liquid Mini Ferrari showcased at IFA

Just like Samsung and HTC and others, Acer also brought some of its newest smartphones at IFA 2011 in Berlin. One of them was the Acer W4, the company’s first Windows Phone Mango offering.

We’ve seen the W4 back in May, too, and it didn’t change since then. It has the same 3.6 inch WVGA display, 1GHz single-core processor, and a 5MP camera.

Acer plans to launch the W4 sometime in October, although we don’t know where exactly, and neither for what price (but I’m assuming this will be one of the most affordable Mango handsets out there).

Another Acer smartphone that was spotted at IFA is the Liquid Mini Ferrari edition.

It’s basically a Liquid Mini with a “Ferrari shield” on the back, Ferrari wallpapers, and Ferrari engine ringtones. The handset runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features a 3.2 inch HVGA display, 5MP camera, 8GB of on-board memory, and a 600MHz processor (not that speedy, like a real Ferrari is). After many months since it was first unveiled, the Acer Iconia Tab A100 is slowly becoming available in more and more markets worldwide. Just recently it was released in the UK and Canada, and it now looks set to make it to Australia as well.

Unfortunately we can’t tell you when exactly that will happen. But it’s coming to Australia pretty soon, since Acer already announced its pricing over there. And it won’t come cheap.

For some reason, only the version with 8 GB of built-in storage will make its way down under. And it will cost $479. It’s unclear if this is going to be a Wi-Fi-only device or one to come with 3G connectivity as well, but since we haven’t yet seen a 3G version of the A100 anywhere, we’re betting it’s the former. Which makes this a pretty expensive tablet.

It’s got a 1 GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, a 7-inch 1024×600 touchscreen, a 5 MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash, a secondary front-facing 2 MP camera, 512 MB of RAM, microSD card support, and Bluetooth. It weighs 470 grams and runs Android Honeycomb.

The Iconia Tab A100 is one of few 7-inch tablets to run Android Honeycomb. It’s also got better than average specs, at least for this screen size. Acer has just launched its Iconia Tab 100 Android Honeycomb tablet in Canada – where the company is also selling the bigger Iconia Tab 500.

The Iconia Tab 100 can be bought for $350 via Future Shop, which, for some unknown reason, calls the tablet “Iconia Tab 1GB” – see it here.

The new Iconia features a 7 inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headset jack, 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 8GB of onboard memory, 5MP rear camera, and a 2MP front-facing camera.

The Iconia Tab 100 should be released by Acer in the US, too – it was supposed to arrive there in the first half of the year, but the launch was delayed.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 and A501 Android 3.2 update now rolling out (at least in Poland)

Following in the footsteps of the Motorola Xoom and the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Acer’s two 10.1-inch Android-powered tablets, the Iconia Tab A500 and the Iconia Tab A501 are apparently now getting their Android 3.2 update.

Android 3.2 is still classified as Honeycomb, and it brings a few enhancements alongside what’s probably a slew of bug fixes. Most notable, perhaps, are the full SD card support now baked into the OS, and the new app scaling method that should allow apps written for smartphones to look a lot better on tablets.

Right now, the Android 3.2 update for the Iconia Tab only seems to have started rolling out in Poland, but we expect it to slowly make its way across the world. The update is over-the-air, and as such you don’t need to do anything special or use a computer to install it. Your tablet will notify you once the update is available, and you go from there.

In Poland, new Acer Iconia Tabs will be sold with Android 3.2 preinstalled starting later this week.

Acer Liquid Express E320 with Android Gingerbread coming soon

Acer has a new Android Gingerbread smartphone that should be released soon. It’s called Acer E320 Liquid Express, and comes with a design that reminds me of the Liquid Mini E310.

The new smartphone was first showcased in Taiwan a few months ago, but we only now know that its name is Liquid Express (thanks to the Bluetooth SIG).

Apart from Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, the Liquid Express features a 3.5 inch HVGA display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Social Jogger app (for easy access to Facebook, Twitter and Flickr), 5MP camera with LED flash, 512MB of RAM, and an 800MHz Qualcomm MSM Turbo processor. Unlike the E310, the E320 only has three Android buttons (but the missing search button is kinda useless anyway).

For the moment, there’s no word on when or where the Acer Liquid Express will be released. Its price is not known, but I don’t think it will be higher than $300 – $350.

The story of Acer’s first 7-inch Android-powered tablet has certainly been an interesting one. The Acer Iconia Tab A100 was announced back in February alongside the Iconia Tab A500 and the Iconia Smart phone/tablet hybrid, yet it still isn’t sold anywhere.

As a matter of fact, in May we heard that the Iconia Tab A100 was delayed until the second half of the year. We naturally assumed that it would probably be launched just before the famous holiday season, but last month Walmart’s pricing of the device leaked and it looked like the A100 would be in stores soon after all.

Yet from that point another month has passed and there’s still no sign of it. However, according to an email sent out by Acer to its retail partners today, the Iconia Tab A100 will be in stores in early August with a recommended retail price of around $300. That’s even cheaper than the aforementioned leaked Walmart pricing ($349), and this price point makes this one of the most interesting tablets to date.

In hindsight, it’s pretty clear now that the Acer Iconia Tab A100 was delayed because Android Honeycomb wasn’t really ready to be put on tablets with resolutions lower than 1280×800 before version 3.2 that came out a couple of weeks ago. Like other manufacturers, Acer was probably just waiting for this particular version of the OS to become available in order to ship the A100 running it.

So if you’re in the US of A, you’ll be able to purchase a Honeycomb-running 7-inch Android tablet in a few weeks, and for quite cheap.

AT&T announced that it would carry the Acer A501 Iconia Tab 4G back in March. Since then, however, the only other thing that we heard about the AT&T-bound A501 was that it may also get a version with 64 GB of internal storage space.

The A501 Iconia Tab has become available in the UK in the meantime, but there was still no sign of it in the US, until today.

Amazon has started taking pre-orders for the tablet, and it asks a pretty cool $499.99 for it (you also get free shipping). Now considering that this is a full-fledged 10.1-inch Android Honeycomb tablet and that it comes with ’4G’ support, that’s a neat price. Unfortunately, the well known retailer does not currently list a projected shipping date for the Iconia Tab. So if you want to be among the first to have one, you’re going to have to pre-order it without knowing when it will arrive at your doorstep. An inconvenience, yes, but for Android tablet fans everywhere it may just be a risk worth taking. You decide.

The Acer A501 Iconia Tab 4G has a 1 GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage space further expandable via microSD cards, a 10.1-inch 1280×800 touchscreen, HSPA+ support, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, HDMI out, two cameras, and a 3260 mAh battery.

64 GB Acer Iconia Tab A501 for AT&T in the works

The 10.1-inch Acer Iconia Tab Android-powered tablet comes in two versions, the A500 which is Wi-Fi-only, and the A501, which also features mobile data connectivity. The most widely spread internal storage capacity for both models is 32 GB, but we recently saw a 16 GB model launch in the UK.

And now it looks like Acer is prepping to add yet another storage capacity option, to the A501 at least. An Acer Iconia Tab A501 with 64 GB of storage has recently passed through the FCC. The A501 was announced in March by AT&T, so this particular model is probably headed to that carrier at some point in the future.

Unfortunately AT&T has yet to unveil an exact release date for the tablet, or any pricing information, so all we can tell for sure right now is that the carrier may get more than one Iconia Tab A501, and that the 64 GB model will (obviously) be more expensive than the 32 GB version. Spec-wise, the Acer Iconia Tab is exactly what you’d expect. The Acer Iconia Tab A500 has been updated to Android 3.1 Honeycomb recently, and it will presumably also get Android 3.2 soon.

Windows Phone Mango devices from Samsung, Acer, ZTE and Fujitsu caught on video

Since Nokia already has functional Windows Phone Mango handsets, and since the new platform should debut pretty soon, it’s no wonder that other Microsoft hardware partners have some functional Mango devices, too.

Take Samsung, Acer, ZTE and Fujitsu. WP Mango handsets from these companies have been showcased by Microsoft yesterday, during its Worldwide Partner Conference held in Los Angeles (and in case you’re wondering, the leaked HTC Eternity didn’t make it to this show for some reason). The devices are yet to be officially named, but they’ve been captured on video, so we do know a few details about them.

The Samsung handset, for example, is probably called SGH-i937, and looks a lot like the Android-based Samsung Galaxy S II (one of the hottest smartphones on the market right now – more than 3 million units have been sold in 55 days). This Mango phone has the Galaxy S II’s form factor, as well as its thinness. I assume it has the same internals, too, including a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, Super AMOLED Plus display, 1080p video recording and so on – but that’s just my guess.

Next we have a pink (yeah, I know) Fujitsu handset, which is waterproof – certainly a first for the Windows Phone platform. This Fujitsu device has “great capabilities in terms of the camera”, but sadly we don’t know what exactly that means. Maybe it sports a 12MP camera, like the Fujitsu F-03B, which is available only in Japan? We’ll probably find out soon if that’s the case.

The Acer WP Mango device (on the left in the photo below) seems to be the previously-seen W4, but we can’t confirm this just yet.

As for the ZTE handset, this may be a low-cost device (since the company is known for making low-cost phones). Again, we can’t confirm this. In any case, the phone looks quite nice:

Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO, recently said that the first Windows Phone Mango devices are “coming this Christmas”, but no one should be surprised if we see them hitting the market a few months earlier. Well, the world is waiting to see what Mango can do against Android, iOS and BlackBerry.

Acer Iconia Tab A501 with 3G now available in the UK for £534

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is one of the best known and best-selling Android Honeycomb tablets so far, and it has been available in the UK for quite a while. Keep in mind though that the A500 is the Wi-Fi-only version of Acer’s 10-inch tablet. There’s also a 3G-enabled (that’s ’4G’ for our American readers) model from Acer called Iconia Tab A501. AT&T has, in fact, announced that it will sell the A501 starting this summer.

But before that happens, the Iconia Tab A501 has become available in the UK. The 3G tablet can now be bought from well known independent third party gadget retalier Clove. It offers the Acer Iconia Tab A501 for £534, VAT included. That’s £15 cheaper than Acer’s recommended retail price for this model, so it’s a decent deal.

Back when Acer announced pricing for its Iconia Tab line in the UK, the A501 was said to be £100 more than its Wi-Fi-only sibling. However, since then Acer has launched a 16 GB version of the Wi-Fi-only A500, and it goes for just £349.99. Compared to that, the 3G Acer Iconia Tab A501 is pretty expensive, then again it does allow you to connect to the Internet regardless of whether you have a Wi-Fi connection around or not, and it’s also got 32 GB of internal storage space.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Android 3.1 update has reached Canada

A couple of days ago, we reported that the Android 3.1 update for the Acer Iconia Tab A500 had apparently started rolling out in the US. That was pretty much on time, since Acer previously said that the update would be available on July 5.

And it looks like the update has also rolled out in Canada. Acer Iconia Tab A500 owners have told MobileSyrup that they have received and applied the update already.

In the US, updating wasn’t all smooth sailing, with several people reporting either getting older software (still newer than Android 3.0, but not 3.1) or getting their devices bricked. That includes one of our commenters. So be careful. Of course should anything happen, it’s clearly covered by warranty, but you will lose a few minutes, hours, or days, talking to Acer support and getting things fixed or getting a replacement.

If you’re in North America and your Iconia Tab A500 hasn’t yet informed you about the update, fret not for it’s probably on its way. Let’s hope it will slowly become available worldwide next.

Before Google gets round to releasing Ice Cream Sandwich, the next version of Android which will be one and the same for both tablets and phones, there still are updates coming in for Honeycomb, the company’s current tablet-optimized OS release.

Such is Android 3.1, the minor update to Android Honeycomb that was announced back in May during Google’s annual developer conference. Since then, this update has made its way onto the Motorola Xoom, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, and we’ve heard that the Acer Iconia Tab A500 may start receiving it starting on July 5.

And even if perhaps missing that exact date, Acer seems to be delivering around that time frame. According to Android Police, Acer Iconia Tab A500 owners in the USA are already seeing the update pop up on their tablets. Undoubtedly, more markets will follow. Unfortunately, it isn’t all smooth sailing, as some users are only getting updated to Android 3.0.1, which is (obviously) an older version. Still an update to 3.0, but not Android 3.1. At least that’s what GottaBeMobile is reporting.

So at this point we can only say that an update to Android 3.1 for the Acer Iconia Tab may be on its way. Some have received it already, and if you haven’t, it’s probably coming. Since this is an over the air update, what will happen is that the tablet will notify you about the update. You then choose to Install it (right?), at which point your Iconia will download the update, then reboot and apply it. That’s it.

This update doesn’t bring any notable new features, but comes with many (needed) bug fixes and performance enhancements, so it is probably wise to perform it as soon as possible.

Acer may launch a ‘slide tablet’ by the end of the year

Acer already has one of the more affordable 10-inch Android Honeycomb tablets on the market, the Iconia Tab A500. And it’s supposedly still working on a 7-inch tablet called Iconia Tab A100, which, despite being delayed until “the second half of the year” should hit the streets at some future point.

However, it seems that those two models may not be enough for the Taiwanese company. Digitimes has heard from “sources in the upstream supply chain” that Acer is also working on a 10-inch “slide tablet” that it’s going to launch in the fourth quarter of this year (that’s between October and December). Presumably, this would be similar to the Asus Eee Pad Slider, a tablet announced back in January but which hasn’t shipped yet. The Asus tablet slides to reveal a full physical QWERTY keyboard, and Acer’s offering may do the same too.

Aside from the 10-inch screen, all we know right now about Acer’s new slide tablet is that it will have an ARM-based processor and will be manufactured by Compal. That’s it, though we can gather that the tablet will probably run Android, since Windows 7 doesn’t support ARM processors, and Windows 8 (which does) is still about a year away from release. Naturally, we’re assuming that will be either Android Honeycomb or Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

Estimated shipment numbers for the new Acer slide tablet are not available yet, because the company is “taking a conservative attitude toward its orders”.

Of course, if this turns out to be real, expect to hear a lot more about it in the coming months. It’s interesting that more and more Android tablet makers are looking to differentiate their offerings, either by price or by features, in a market that’s become quite filled with near-identical models.

Acer launches 16 GB Iconia Tab A500 in the UK for £349.99

Acer has decided to launch a new version of its Iconia Tab A500 Android Honeycomb tablet in the UK. The only difference between the new model and the ‘old’ one is the integrated internal storage space. The new tablet has 16 GB, whereas the one already on the market has double that – 32 GB.

That obviously means that Acer is able to sell the 16 GB version for less, £100 less in fact. The recommended retail price for the 16 GB Iconia Tab A500 is just £349.99, making it £50 cheaper than the equivalent, 16 GB iPad 2 from Apple. And while £50 isn’t that much really, the lower price may help Acer’s tablet make some inroads into the market, where Apple’s products are perceived as either ‘premium’ or ‘the norm’ (specifically in the case of tablets), so having a more expensive tablet than Apple isn’t a great sales strategy.

Acer seems to have understood that, so that’s cool. The 16 GB Acer Iconia Tab A500 is now available in the UK.

This new Acer Iconia Tab A500 has, aside from the 16 GB of internal storage space, a dual-core 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, a 10.1-inch 1280×800 capacitive touchscreen, a 5 MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash and video recording, a secondary front-facing 2 MP camera, 1 GB of RAM, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a (rather disappointing) 3260 mAh battery.

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is one of the more interesting Android Honeycomb tablets on the market, primarily because it’s quite affordable, at least compared to some of the competition (cough, Xoom, cough). While perhaps not being the cheapest 10-inch Android tablet, that award probably being snatched by the Asus Eee Pad Transformer in most markets, Acer’s first effort is a good one nevertheless.

Back in May we heard that the Iconia Tab A500 would get updated to Android 3.1, the latest version of the tablet-optimized fork of Android, sometime in June, alongside the Eee Pad Transformer. The update for the Asus tablet has already started rolling out, but so far there was no word from Acer on what’s going on – after all June is almost over.

So today the company’s German arm decided to post an update about the update on its Facebook page. It turns out that Acer Iconia Tab A500 tablets will be updated to Android 3.1 on July 5, at least those bought in Germany. It’s unclear at the moment if this date is also when a European rollout of the update will begin, or perhaps a global one. We’ll let you know more as soon as we do.

What we do know right now is that, as expected, the update will come over-the-air, and as such your tablet will notify you that the update is available, at which point you can download and install it.

7-inch Acer Iconia Tab A100 gets priced at Walmart

The 7-inch Honeycomb-running Acer Iconia Tab A100 just got priced at Walmart, which is more than a bit odd. First of all, because the tablet itself is still nowhere to be seen in Walmart stores – it’s just literally the price (tag) which is getting all the attention today.

It’s also strange because last we heard anything about the Iconia Tab A100, it was supposedly delayed until the second half of the year. Now that may, of course, mean that it will launch in July (since that is after all in the second half of the year), yet we assumed that meant later in the year – as manufacturers usually release stuff closer to the end of their projected time frames.

But, if Walmart hasn’t priced the Iconia Tab A100 by mistake, it certainly looks like the Iconia Tab A500′s little brother is bound to be released soon, at least in the US at Walmart. And that $349 price seems about right, considering what you get for it: one of the first 7-inch tablets to run Android Honeycomb, a dual-core 1 GHz processor, two cameras, and 8 GB of internal storage space (expandable via microSD cards).

Google Chromebooks now available for purchase

We first saw Google’s prototype chromebook, the CR-48, a few months back. Google revealed all of the details on its official chromebook at the Google I/O developer conference in May. Samsung and Acer were named the first two manufacturing partners to develop commercially available Chromebooks.

Google tried to develop some more buzz by having a pre-sale of a few chromebooks through Gilt and by also creating an easter egg hunt type game in which consumers searched for clues to have a chance at winning an early Chromebook. Now, both models of the Chromebook are available for purchase at both BestBuy and Amazon.

The Acer model will cost $349.99, while the Samsung model is a bit more expensive at $429.99. The Chromebooks will also be available at different online retailers in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands. Google’s Chrome OS will bring a cool new experience to the computer market. Chrome OS does not have a desktop and users complete everything through the web broswer.
