The quick upgrade is due to Microsoft’s tight control over the Windows Phone OS. The same goes for Apple’s tight control over iOS and its quick release of upgrades. They keep a hardware standard and do not allow customization of the base platform. This leads to a quick and easy distribution of upgrades.

The downside to the quick update is the lag behind competing hardware. Windows Phones devices run on single-core processors and WVGA displays, while competitors use HD displays and dual-core processors. Although with the properly optimized software, the single-core processor doesn’t have too much of an effect, the WVGA screen doesn’t compare to the qHD and HD displays on high end Android devices. The downside to Android is that updates take light years longer to head out to devices if you aren’t using a one of Google’s Nexus devices. Both sides have their pros and cons. Anyways, kudos to Microsoft for the quick update and congratulations Dell Venue Pro users.

According to wpcentral, a “higher up at Dell” has confirmed that the company will not be releasing any new Windows Phones in the near future. It won’t be launching any new handset running Microsoft’s latest version of the mobile operating system, named Mango.

Dell may launch another Windows Phone when Windows Phone 8 (named Apollo) will be available, but up until then the Venue Pro was the first and last Dell Windows Phone. Fortunately for owners of that device, the company will continue to provide updates for it.

At some point in the past, Dell was planning to release a successor to the Venue Pro, codenamed Wrigley, but that device never saw the light of day and has been cancelled.

We’re guessing Dell is now waiting for Windows Phone’s market share to increase before taking another risk with Microsoft’s OS. And with the latter’s partnership with Nokia, WP7 may just be on the map in a few months. We’ll have to wait and see how things pan out.

The Streak Pro 101DL runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and it can easily stand next to any other high-end smartphone on the market. It features a 4.3 inch qHD (960 x 540) Super AMOLED display, 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, 8MP rear camera, and 1.3MP front-facing camera.

K-tai Watch reports that the Dell Streak Pro 101DL will be commercially available in Japan starting January 2012. Apparently, Dell is planning to introduce the new smartphone in other markets, too, although it’s not clear when, and neither where exactly. We’ll bring more details on this as soon as we get them.

While nothing can be done about the display’s resolution (save for Dell releasing an updated Streak 7), the software is an easy fix. And, amazingly, Dell seems like it wants to do something about it.

The company has confirmed today that it will upgrade the Streak 7 to Android 3.2 Honeycomb. A few Streak 7 units running Honeycomb have been spotted at IFA. It’s almost vanilla Honeycomb here, with a touch of Dell’s Stage UI added in for good measure.

Unfortunately, a clear release date for the update hasn’t been announced yet. Of course we’re hoping that this hits the streets as soon as possible though. But if you haven’t yet bought a tablet and want a 7-incher, you may want to look at Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab 7.7. As nice as the Streak 7 is in other respects, 800×480 on a tablet is simply unforgivable from where we stand.

The Dell Streak 10 Pro, is, in terms of specs, your average run of the mill Android Honeycomb 10.1-inch tablet. It has a 10.1-inch 1280×800 touchscreen with Gorilla Glass, a dual-core 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage space, an SD card slot, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a secondary front-facing 2-megapixel camera, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. It runs Android 3.1 Honeycomb and weighs 727 g. Dell claims up to 12 hours of battery life, but we all know how realistic computer manufacturers’ estimates about battery life usually are (except Apple in recent years), so make of that what you wish.

The Dell Streak 10 Pro enables both work and play by using the Dell Divide application, which delivers a clear balance between your personal and professional information. In work mode, you can access the corporate network and apps, and in personal mode you can do all the personal stuff people do on tablets. All without worrying that your employer may have access to your personal photos, for instance, and without compromising access to any sensitive work data. Your personal and professional stuff is kept safe, secure and, most importantly, separate from one another.

An interesting experiment, this. As is the fact that the tablet launches in China first, and Dell isn’t yet sure if it will also sell it elsewhere. It plans to wait and see how things go on the Chinese market first, then make up its mind about global availability based on what it’s learned in China.

Of course, we’ve seen the Streak 10 Pro many times before, even earlier this week when we heard that the launch was imminent. The Dell Streak 10 Pro will become available online at Dell, and in Dell-authorized retail channels (which can be found in more than 2,000 cities) in the country in the next couple of weeks.

The Dell Streak 10 Pro costs RMB 3,699, which amounts to approximately $575 or €403 at today’s exchange rates. However, Dell has a special offer for those of you who order a Streak 10 Pro today. If you choose to do that, you’ll only pay RMB 2,999 for the tablet, so just $466 or €327.

Interestingly, the photo shows Android Honeycomb running not only on the Streak 10 Pro, but also on the Streak 7, which may mean an official update will come to the latter tablet (launched with Android 2.2 Froyo back in March).

As previously rumored, the Dell Streak 10 Pro should be released in China starting this week, although we’re still short on details regarding its price. The big Honeycomb Streak offers a 10.1 inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels, GPS, Wi-Fi, 5MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, and a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor.

At the moment, Dell doesn’t know if it’s going to offer the Streak 10 Pro in occidental markets or not. It will wait and see how sales in China go, and only then decide.

Now, if we’re to believe VR-Zone and its “reliable source”, it looks like the new Streak will be launched later this week in China. Unfortunately, we still don’t know how much the Streak 10 Pro will cost, and we still don’t have an official photo of it.

After releasing it in China, Dell should introduce the new tablet in other countries – this will be evaluated based on its success in the Chinese market.

The Streak 10 Pro is Dell’s third Android tablet, after the Streak 5 and Streak 7 (which run Android 2.2 Froyo). It features Android Honeycomb, a 10.1 inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels, Wi-Fi, GPS, dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, 5MP rear camera, and 2MP front-facing camera.

Interestingly, the new Streak will be launched in China first, sometime “later this summer”, with other markets being evaluated in the second half of the year.

But why did Dell choose China? Well, because it’s a fast-growing market, and the company has about 10,000 retail locations where customers can find its products. And also because:

In China, access to Google applications and the Android Market is not available today in many cases. Therefore, the end product (encompassing the hardware, software, and availability of applications, services and solutions) delivered in China will be significantly different to what would be delivered in many other countries. That’s why it makes sense to start there. We will use what we learn in China to shape mobile products we’ll offer in other places down the road. Offering an Android 10” tablet in these markets at a later date allows developers more time to create robust apps, particularly for mobile professionals.

Dell didn’t provide any official images of the Streak 10 Pro, but we have these leaked photos that appeared on the Web not long ago:

As previously reported, the Dell Streak 10 Pro should come with a 5MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, dual-core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory, and up to 64GB of storage space.

Dell should officially introduce the Streak 10 Pro next month (June), although this isn’t confirmed yet. We’ll bring more details as soon as we have them.

The Streak Pro will be Dell’s biggest tablet, featuring a 10.1 inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels. Its rumored features include a dual-core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory, Wi-Fi, 5MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, and 16 / 32 / 64GB of on-board storage space.

The tablet isn’t as thin as Apple’s iPad 2 or Samsung’s new Galax Tabs, but it still has good dimensions: 261 x 176. 4 x 12. 9mm.

According to Tweakers.net, the Streak Pro (pictured below) may have support for AT&T’s upcoming LTE network.

It’s said that Dell plans to introduce the new Streak Pro sometime in June. Pricing details are a mystery for now.

This is Dell’s first 7-inch tablet, and it’s running Android, as you would expect. However, maybe not as expected is the fact that the Dell Streak 7 runs Android 2.2 Froyo, and not Android Honeycomb (which is the tablet-optimized version of Google’s mobile operating system).

Aside from the OS version, the only other major downside with the Streak 7 is its touchscreen’s resolution, which is just 800×480. That’s the same resolution that most high-end Android smartphones have nowdays, and those are devices with 4.3″ screens or less. As a result, the Streak 7′s display is anything but crisp – in a way it’s the exact opposite of Apple’s Retina Display: here, the pixel density is one of the smallest around, whereas in the iPhone 4 it’s one of the highest.

Still, if you can live with that, the Streak 7 is a capable little tablet. It has a 1 GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra processor, a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, and 720p HD video recording, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 16 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD, Wi-Fi 802.11n, and a 2780 mAh battery.

Last month we told you that Dell Canada had started taking orders for the tablet, and it was expecting to start shipping Streak 7s on April 29. Well, guess what? That didn’t happen. People who had ordered the Dell Streak 7 in Canada did not receive the devices in April. In fact, they still haven’t received them.

Right now, Dell says that it will start shipping the tablets on May 13. That’s two days from now, so we’ll see quite soon whether there will be any further delays or not. Let’s hope not. For, even if they may not be many, the Canadians who want a Dell Streak 7 shouldn’t have to keep waiting.

The price has remained the same, $399.99. This amount of dough will get you the Wi-Fi-only version of the Streak 7, which is what we’re talking about here. In the US, it was announced in October of last year, as part of the first batch of WP7 devices to be officially unveiled. However, it was headed to T-Mobile. In fact, it’s been sold with T-Mobile specific 3G bands ever since.

Until now, that is. Dell has started selling a version of the Venue Pro that’s tailor made for AT&T, sporting that carrier’s particular 3G bands. AT&T’s Venue Pro comes with either 8 GB, 16 GB, or 32 GB of internal storage, and which of those you pick influences how much you have to pay.

The 8 GB version goes for $99.99 with a new two-year contract. The 16 GB version will set you back $149.99, and for 32 gigs of memory you have to shell out no less than $199.99 – obviously the same two-year agreement is necessary.

Aside from its distinctive keyboard, the Venue Pro packs a 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 4.1-inch 480×800 capacitive touchscreen.

While the price is arguably rather good, the specs are half-great, half-meh. The Dell Streak 7 has a 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 16 GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, a 5 MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, and a 1.3 MP front-facing camera.

Then again, consider that the 7-inch touchscreen only has an 800×480 resolution – that’s on par with most smartphones these days, and even lower than high-end devices such as the Motorola Atrix or HTC Sensation. At 454 grams, it isn’t particularly light either, especially for this size, and the 2780 mAh battery isn’t anything to write home about.

Last but definitely not least, the Streak 7 runs Android 2.2 Froyo. That’s right, no Honeycomb in sight here. What’s more, Dell has even added a customized Stage UI on top of Froyo, ensuring that any possible OS updates will take a long time to make it to the tablet because of the need to re-write those Stage elements.

If the aforementioned downsides to the Streak 7 aren’t particularly relevant to you, then the new Dell tablet may be an interesting offer. So if for some reason you’ve been waiting for this Windows Phone 7 device, the only one to have a portrait-sliding QWERTY keyboard (a la Palm Pre), it’s time to check your credit card’s balance and prepare to do some ordering.

That’s not too shabby for a device that has a Tegra 2 dual-core 1 GHz processor under the hood, as well as Wi-Fi and an unlocked 3G radio to be used on any network you please. The only downsides to the Streak 7 are the OS version it runs (which isn’t the tablet-optimized Android 3.0 Honeycomb), and its screen resolution of just 800×480 (compared to rivals’ higher-res screens of at least 1024×600). In fact, that’s the same resolution that high-end Android smartphones have had since the introduction of the Google Nexus One last year.

On the other hand, the 3G-enabled Streak 7 will cost the same in the UK as a Wi-Fi-only Samsung Galaxy Tab – which also runs Android 2.2 Froyo, but only has a single-core processor. In the end though, it’s up to you. If the sheer power of the hardware will be more important than the screen resolution, you’ll surely go for the Streak 7.

Unusually for such cases, the information about the Streak 7 Wi-Fi-only edition doesn’t come via a leak, but from a product listing over at Amazon. Amazon has started taking pre-orders for the Wi-Fi-only Dell Streak 7, and the price being asked for the tablet is $379.99. Furthermore, that price includes free shipping.

Apart from the missing cellular connectivity, this device is identical to the one being sold by T-Mobile. There’s no word yet on when this tablet will start shipping, but since pre-orders have already started, that date can’t be very far away. Now the ball’s in Dell’s court, who’d better come up with some sort of official announcement, and perhaps throw a release date in that if we aren’t asking too much.

British online retailer Clove, which was also the bearer of some of the delay news of the past, now finally has some good news for would-be Dell Venue Pro owners. The device will start shipping from them on March 26. If you just can’t wait, you can head straight to Clove and and order yours already. And in about ten days, you’ll have it.

The price that Clove is asking is £420, VAT included, which amounts to approximately 485 euros or $674. Obviously, for that price, you get a SIM-free device that doesn’t tie you to any operator contract.

At the beginning of December, it looked like Dell was ready to release the update for AT&T Streak tablet/smartphones, but then pulled it at the last moment, and a week later we heard that the update would be out in January.

Thad didn’t happen, and here we are, almost at the end of February, with Dell announcing yet again that the update has started going out. This time for devices purchased from both AT&T and Rogers. Let’s hope you won’t read another “Dell pulled the update” post tomorrow.

The update is of the over-the-air variety, meaning that your Streak 5 should notify you of the update. After that, just follow the on-screen instructions, it’s easy. Be aware though that this looks like it’s going to be a staggered release, as always with OTA affairs. That means that the wait may not be over for you, since it may take many days before your Streak finally decides to offer you the update.

A few days, or maybe even a couple of weeks, though, is nothing compared to the months and months that AT&T and Rogers customers that are Streak owners have had to wait up until now, so never mind the wait and start celebrating!

Sure, newer Android tablets are out, and they’re running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, but… at least your device is half-smartphone! And… that’s something, right?

In it we see that, just like with smartphones, Dell will focus on operating systems made by Google and Microsoft for its tablets. So let’s start with the latter. Since Microsoft is clearly against Windows Phone 7 running on anything other than, you know, phones, Dell’s Windows tablets will get the desktop version of Windows.

The Rosemount will be out in June and it will run Windows 7. Its touchscreen’s resolution will be 1366×768. In January 2012 (probably to be unveiled at CES), the Peju will join it – this device will run Windows 8, apparently.

On the Android side, the first new tablet from Dell this year will be the Gallo. It will run Honeycomb and will be released in April. The Dell Sterling, also running Honeycomb, will be joining the Gallo in Dell’s portfolio in October. The Dell Opus One and Dell Silver Oak will join Dell’s Android tablet party in January of next year, and, you guessed it, they’re also slated to run Honeycomb, although that’s rather unlikely by that time, since an even newer version of Android should become available before that. We’ll see.

At the beginning of the leaked shot we see the already familiar Venue and Venue Pro. Then, in May, the Dell Venue Pro MLK is slated. It’s unclear at this time what ‘MLK’ may stand for, but our best guess is that that’s when the smartphone will receive the first Windows Phone 7 software update.

Next up, in July, the Dell Wrigley will be released. This is another device with a portrait-sliding full physical QWERTY keyboard, like the Venue Pro. It will have a 1 GHz processor, a 4-inch WVGA (800×480) touchscreen, and an 8-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording.

In September, the Android-powered Dell Hancock is set to hit the streets. This will have a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard and will run Android Ice Cream. It will have a dual-core processor, a 4-inch qHD (960×540) touchscreen, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p full HD video recording, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Dell Millennium will arrive in October. This smartphone will not have a physical keyboard. It will have a dual-core processor, a 4.3-inch qHD touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera with 1080p full HD video recording, a VGA front-facing camera, and DLNA certification. Like the Hancock, the Millennium will run Android Ice Cream.

This smartphone was supposed to be in stores as far back as November, but that got pushed back thanks to some kind of MMS bug. And therefore the Venue Pro would arrive in stores by mid-February. Just before the end of January, we got encouraging news that the Venue Pro would arrive at one retailer in just a few days. You guessed it, that didn’t happen either.

So now another UK online retailer, Clove, has revealed that it’s expecting the first stock of the Venue Pro in ‘early March’. There’s no known reason for this delay, but at this rate, who knows when the phone will actually be in the hands of anyone living in the UK?

And it’s a shame, this situation, since this is the first and only WP7 device to feature a vertically-sliding QWERTY keyboard. Let’s hope it actually gets released at the beginning of March.

And today it’s finally available, but only from Dell. As anticipated, there are no carrier partners (yet?) for the Venue, so if you want one, the only way to get it is unlocked direct from Dell. Two versions are available, one for T-Mobile, and one for AT&T. Either one costs $499.99.

The Dell Venue runs Android 2.2 Froyo, and comes with a 4.1-inch WVGA (800×480) capacitive AMOLED touchscreen with Gorilla Glass, an 8 MP autofocus camera, quad-band GSM, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and a 3.5 mm headset jack. Its dimensions are 121x64x12.9 mm, and it weighs 164 grams.

Apparently, Rogers will be the first – and maybe also the only – Canadian carrier to offer the Venue Pro. The smartphone should be available at Rogers sometime in March, for an unknown price.

Rogers’ other WP7 handset, the Samsung Focus, costs $99.99 with a new 3-y contract agreement, so the Dell Venue Pro might be offered for the same price.

The Venue Pro is Dell’s first Windows Phone 7 device. It features a 4.1 inch WVGA AMOLED display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, 5MP autofocus camera, 1GHz processor, and a QWERTY keyboard that you can slide out whenever you need to type faster.

As rumored not long ago, the Streak 7 will be available starting February 2 (this Wednesday).

The new Android tablet will not cost $299.99 on contract, as initially believed, but only $199.99 (after a $50 mail-in rebate).

Unlike T-Mo’s second 4G tablet (the LG G-Slate, which should be launched on March 23 with Android 3.0 Honeycomb), Dell’s Streak 7 runs Android 2.2 Honeycomb. It also features a 7 inch WVGA multi-touch display, HSPA+, Wi-Fi, dual-core Nvidia Terra 2 processor, 5MP photo camera, and a 1.3MP front-facing camera for video calling.

Its availability in the UK has been plagued with delays. The Venue Pro was first supposed to be sold in the UK in November, but that didn’t happen. Last month, we found out that the delay would end mid-February, but good news has surfaced today.

If you’re after a Dell Venue Pro in the UK, you only have five more days to wait. In five days, the device will be in stock at Expansys, one of the major online retailers in the UK. It will set you back £439.99, and will come unlocked and contract-free.

That will buy you a smartphone that has a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 4.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, and a 5-megapixel camera.

That’s exactly what Dell is proposing, should you opt to get yourself a Motorola Droid X for Verizon. Two caveats do apply, though. First is the fact that you must be a new customer, and sign a 2-year contract. The second is that the $25 comes in the form of a gift card from Dell, but hey, it’s still good to have, and makes this deal officially “better than free”.

As usual when activating a new smartphone, you’ll have to get a data plan, the cheapest one being one cent short of $30 per month. And if you are already a Verizon customer, you can get the Droid X for $49.99, which isn’t a bad deal either, considering that this still is a high-end smartphone even by today’s standards. And you’ll still get the $25 gift card.

T-Mobile’s first 4G Android tablet will be, as anticipated, the Dell Streak 7. This seven-inch version of the Streak will hit stores on February 2 and will cost $299.99 with a new two-year contract. The pricing may involve a rebate of some kind though, so keep that in mind.

Hot on the heels of the original Vibrant being offered for free on contract, the Vibrant 4G is set to appear in magenta stores on February 23.

The second tablet that TMo is about to launch soon is the LG G-Slate of course, and this will become available on March 23.

From T-Mobile’s upcoming 4G devices, only the Android-powered Sidekick 4G remains without an official release date as of yet, but that will probably find its way onto the internet too, and sooner, rather than later. And we’ll be here to report on it.

Now a leaked T-Mobile document apparently shows that the date will be February 2. According to TmoNews, the circled bit in the image below holds that information.

Of course, T-Mobile is also prepping to launch another Android-powered tablet, the LG G-Slate, and that will also support T-Mobile’s flavor of 4G. But it now looks clear that the G-Slate will be the second 4G tablet to hit T-Mobile, and the Streak 7 will be the first – possibly becoming available on February 2.

Considering that the phone’s price when it launched was $259, this is quite a good deal. To take advantage of it, you’ll have to go here at Dell, add the phone to cart, and then apply the coupon code “K140H5WFQ0GK30″. And magically, the phone’s price will drop to $149.99.

So if you’re after a cheap but rather capable messaging phone, perhaps you should consider the Nokia E5 from Dell.

And it looks like it won’t be for more than a month still. UK retailer Clove has put up a blog post explaining that their first stock of the Venue Pro is now delayed until ‘mid-February’. The culprit, according to them, is a Microsoft issue with the MMS settings.

Because of this software bug, those of you in the UK who have been eagerly waiting to purchase the Venue Pro, perhaps for its unique, vertical slider form-factor, still have some waiting to do.

Patience is indeed a virtue in the mobile world.

The Dell Venue is an indication of the company’s commitment to improve and broaden its mobile lineup. Some are calling the Venue the little brother of the Venue Pro because of the Pro’s inclusion of a full portrait QWERTY keyboard and additional Enterprise-friendly features, but the Venue itself is a very capable Android 2.2 handset.

My first impressions of the Venue when looking at it for the first time is that it looks incredibly similar to the Sanyo Zio. Whether that’s a good thing or not can be left up to your own personal opinion, but I don’t mind the design of the phone as long as it doesn’t have similar performance to the Zio. The Venue has a very slick 4.1″ AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass and smooth edges, fully chromed-up side, and then a special pattern-design back that feels somewhat plasticky.

As for the interface, the Venue uses a brand new Stage UI that I saw on the Dell Streak 7, which takes each individual home screen panel and converts it into a certain category. For instance, you can find Stages for Social, Email, Recent Apps, Contacts, Music, Videos, and more. If you hate these stages, they can be removed and replaced by whatever else you’d normally like, so at least you have the ability to choose for yourself how you want to decorate the innards of your phone, whether you want to add widgets or folders or regular apps. The Stages themselves have been designed very well, and will be interesting to see if there will be any additional Stages thrown in down the road. I would be very interested to see it open up to developer support, much like Sprint ID does, where you can choose from several customized Stages of all sorts of categories.

Besides the Stages, most of the interface is vanilla Android with exceptions in the contacts and dialpad. Dell will also be throwing in an extra proprietary app called VideoStage, a fee-based streaming video and movie service, which will be loaded on the phones in time for shipping, though it wasn’t available for me to view on the prototype unit I played with.

Overall, I’m very excited to see one of the final versions of the Venue when it’s ready for shipping. So far I’m excited to see a huge difference between the Venue and the Aero that launched last year. Certainly, just by judging the difference I can tell that Dell is on the right path to becoming a strong player in the mobility market.

It didn’t say when, and neither for what price, but it did mention that the handset will be sold unlocked – so there will be no carrier to offer it subsidized (well, not for the beginning, anyway).

The Dell Venue is the keyboardless version of the WP7-based Venue Pro. It runs Android 2.2 Froyo and features a 4.1 inch AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass, Wi-Fi, HSDPA, GPS, Dell Stage widgets, Flash 10.1, 8MP autofocus camera, MicroSD card support, and a 1GHz processor.

The original Streak (which I think we should just begin calling the Streak 5, to limit confusion from the Streak 7) was offered by AT&T but barely made a dent in sales due to several factors: lack of marketing, a soft launch that nobody really heard about, and lackluster software/hardware. From what we can tell, Dell has very likely learned its lesson now. For instance, the Streak 7 is being announced to the masses at CES 2011, always a good idea to get extra media coverage; there’s no more confusion as to whether it’s a really big smartphone or really small tablet, and is competitive with the Galaxy Tab and Blackberry Playbook; and it comes with T-Mobile 4G speeds attached (21 Mbps max, not the 42 that was announced today).

Available in the coming weeks, here are some of the specs of the Dell Streak 7:

The Gorilla Glass is always a good inclusion on a tablet. The screens are simply so large that it would otherwise become disastrous if accidentally dropped, just like when I dropped my camera at the show yesterday.

Stage UI on the Streak is a rather curious one. I have to give brownie points to Dell for its originality. Instead of using the traditional front screens to put widgets and apps on, it has “stages”. Each stage has an emphasis on a specific lifestyle or personal preference, such as a music-geared or social networking-geared one. On the unit I used tonight, the main stage covered recently used apps, something that is nice to have handy but not necessarily what I would use as my main page. If you can’t stand them, stages can be trashed and replaced with regular vanilla Android style preferences, such as apps, widgets and folders.

While I don’t want to get in the mode of comparing tablets to each other, it’s easy to do when previewing several of them over the course of 3 days. With that said, I could tell that the Streak 7 is heavier than the Playbook and a little more of a chore to heave around. Being a 7 inch tablet makes it still very portable and pocketable, but it’s hard to carry one of these after holding a Playbook.

It’s hard to judge the performance of a device when it’s in pre-production. Since the Streak 7 will be available in the coming weeks at an undisclosed (yet competitive, they assure me) price, this is not the final model going hot off the press. With that said, I had a hard time believing this tablet has a dual-core Tegra 2 processor inside. Sliding back and forth to different stages and in the apps themselves felt a little sluggish, and was typically met with some delay. Again, hard to tell whether it will be this way once the finalized version comes to fruition, so call us skeptical. If it has Tegra2, we want to see it fly. And I wasn’t really getting that feeling when playing with it.

The Streak 7 is the first 4G tablet for both Dell and T-Mobile, though do take into account that T-Mobile insists on calling HSPA+ ’4G’. That said, they have announced a plan to double the theoretical maximum throughput of their HSPA+ network to 42Mbps, from the current 21 Mbps.

The Dell Streak 7 will run Android 2.2 upon launch and has the following main features:

Dell India’s official website presents the Venue in an almost exhaustive manner – and, although the handset’s launch date isn’t mentioned there, AndroidOS.in reports that the device will be available starting next month (January 2011).

There’s no word on the price of the Venue for the Indian market, but it should be similar to the price announced for Hong Kong (about $515 or 23,000 INR).

The Dell Venue will come with Android 2.2 Froyo, a 4.1 inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, 8MP autofocus camera, and a 1GHz processor, and MicroSD card support (up to 32GB).

CellPhoneSignal has managed to get some photos of the Streak 7 bearing T-Mobile USA’s logo on the back. We can also  see a photo camera with LED flash on the back of the tablet.

Moreover, there seems to be a video-calling camera on the front. Other features (like the screen’s resolution, the processor, storage space) are not known at the moment.

Dell might officially unveil the Streak 7 at CES 2011 (January 6 – 9). The tablet should run Android 2.3 Gingerbread when available – if not Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

Perhaps rather confusingly, unlike the Venue Pro, the Dell Venue doesn’t run Windows Phone 7, but Android 2.2 Froyo. It has a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, a 4.1-inch Gorilla Glass AMOLED touchscreen with a resolution of 800×480, an 8-megapixel camera with auto-focus and a LED flash, 1 GB of ROM, 512 MB of RAM, 1400 mAh battery, microSD card support, Bluetooth 2.3, Wi-Fi, AGPS.

The Dell Venue has become available in Hong Kong today and it goes for HK$ 3,999 (that’s approximately US$514 – so quite a bit less than in Korea). It will presumably start to become available in other markets soon. We’ll keep you posted.

There’s a catch, though. Well, actually two. First off, it won’t come with Android 2.2 Froyo preinstalled. You’ll have to manually update it yourself once you get it.

And speaking of that, Dell will only ship these to customers on January 10.

But, if you’ve wanted to buy a Streak yet didn’t want to commit to a 2-year contract with AT&T, and also didn’t want to spend almost $600 on it, here’s your chance to get some hybrid smartphone/tablet action. And you should probably order fast, since CES is right around the corner (and before January 10), and once you’ll get your eyes on the rumored Honeycomb-powered tablets that will get announced there, you may just entirely forget that the Streak exists.

Unlike the Venue Pro, the Venue is an Android smartphone – it doesn’t come with 2.3 Gingerbread yet, but with 2.2 Froyo.

The new handset features a 4.1 inch WVGA AMOLED Gorilla Glass display that’s reportedly curved – although this can’t be seen in the official photos.

The Venue was announced by KT (South Korea’s second largest mobile carrier) alongside other Android devices: Dell Streak, HTC Desire HD, and Pantech Vega Xpress.

KT will launch the Dell Venue later this month for 700,000 KRW (about $610). Dell has not announced any details regarding the new smartphone’s availability in the US and Europe – we’ll probably hear more on this soon.

Yes, the Dell Streak is now available from Best Buy for a measly $99.99 with a new, 2-year AT&T contract. And sure enough, this thing may not have Android 2.2 Froyo on it yet, but it will pretty soon.

So if you’ve lusted over the Dell Streak that isn’t really a smartphone and isn’t quite a tablet, but a weird in-between device, but were put off by the original price, perhaps now would be a good time to reconsider, and head straight to your local Best Buy and sign off the next two years of your life.

After all, you are getting a high-spec Android device for just a hundred bucks…

That’s great news for Dell Streak owners who have been stuck on Android 1.6 or Android 2.1. It’s also better news than those who bought their Streak from AT&T in the USA have recently received, as their Streaks will only get the update next year.

There are no more details as of now, but we’ll let you know when the update is ready to download. And anyway, the update should be of the over-the-air variety, which means that your Streak will prompt you that there’s an update available. So keep an eye on your tablet, even more so than before today.

Froyo, of course, will add a number of new features to the Streak, such as updating Market apps en masse, Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities (if O2 don’t block that), and Google Navigation for turn-by-turn directions.

Remember, the update for unlocked Dell Streak smartphones/tablets has been out (no, really) for almost a month now, we’re just talking about Streaks sold by and locked to AT&T. For some reason, they will only get updated next year – more specifically, the “week of January 12th”, as the image below points out.

That is a caption of an internal email, and it clearly states that the update won’t happen this year. Why? No one knows. AT&T haters will, however, have a field day with this.

Also, if you’re going to upgrade to Android 2.2 from Android 1.6 (what the Streak originally launched with), you’ll be able to download the over-the-air update either via Wi-Fi or 3G, whichever suits you more. But if you update from Android 2.1, the only option will be to download via Wi-Fi. Odd.

What has been missing from this picture? The Froyo update for Dell Streak devices sold by AT&T. Well, that’s not the case anymore, as this update has finally become available.

The update is done over-the-air, with no need for a computer to run it.

A new Dell Stage home screen app is present, and it functions the same in portrait and landscape, as opposed to the original Dell Stage which was landscape-only except for the dialer. Swype has also been added, but the original Dell Streak keyboard seems to have vanished as a consequence. The AT&T network indicator now shows “H” when you’re connected to HSPA – before it didn’t go any further than “3G”.

Until today, when it’s back up, this time backed by an official announcement from Dell. The good news is that they will now sell you the Venue Pro for even less, $50 less in fact.

So you can order a Venue Pro from Dell for just $99.99, and they’ll even ship it to you on December 9, five full days sooner than originally expected. To get the smartphone for that price, you still need to sign a new 2-year customer agreement with T-Mobile. Of course, you could just buy the device outright for $449.99 (amazingly, this is also $50 cheaper than it was yesterday), but do keep in mind that the Venue Pro is not compatible with AT&T’s 3G bands, only those used by T-Mobile.

And today, Dell has shed some light on what’s happening with the Venue Pro. If you order one from Dell, they’ll ship it to you on December 14. The price is $149.99. However, as you probably expected it, you’ll only get that price if you agree to a new 2-year contract with T-Mobile. You can also buy the phone outright for $499.99, but keep in mind that while it will work with T-Mobile’s 3G network, it won’t work on AT&T’s 3G.

The Dell Venue Pro has a 4.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, a vertically sliding physical QWERTY keyboard, a 5-megapixel camera, and it’s powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

The company has also announced the availability of new colors for the Streak: Cherry Red and Pure White (the latter’s already sold at Best Buy – only with an AT&T contract, though).

For some reason, the red and white Streaks still come with Android 1.6. However, Dell says Android 2.2 updates will be rolled out soon.

Note that $579 is the price of the 16GB Streak – the 32GB version costs an extra $99.

All in all, if you don’t want to wait for the Dell Opus One, you can go buy a Streak right now here at Dell.

Best Buy has begun selling Dell’s half-tablet, half-smartphone device in white. The price is the same $299 that AT&T asks for the black version, and a new 2-year contract is still needed to seal the deal, but if you’re into white gadgets and it won’t bother you that only the Streak’s back is white, this may be for you.

The white Dell Streak is only available for in-store pick-up right now, although you can reserve one and pay for it online. Not all Best Buy stores may have stock, so be sure to check if yours does first.
