Dual SIM Gigabyte Gsmart Rola with Android Froyo coming soon

Dual SIM Android handsets are quite rare, and maybe that’s why Gigabyte is readying the launch of one.

Called Gsmart Rola, the upcoming dual SIM devices is a mid to entry-level smartphone that features a 3.2 inch WQVGA resistive touchscreen display, Android 2.2 Froyo, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, FM radio, 3.2MP camera, 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM, MicroSD card support, and a 528MHz processor.

The handset also supports HSDPA, but it’s not clear yet if you’ll be able to use it on both SIM cards (most probably not).

The Gigabyte Gsmart Rola should be available early next year in “select regions” – this likely means some European and Asian markets. It will cost around €175.

The Gigabyte GSmart G1305 Codfish is indeed coming to Orange, as we assumed last month, and is indeed called Boston (which is not that weird, since the carrier also has phones dubbed Rome, New York, Vegas and Miami).

Running Android 1.6, the Orange Boston features a 3.2 inch touchscreen display with 480 x 320 pixels, trackball, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, 3.5mm headset jack, 5MP camera, MicroSD card support, 256MB of RAM, and a 600MHz processor from Qualcomm.

As seen in the renderings below, the Boston will be launched by Orange in white:

The Orange Boston should be available in the UK, Spain, Poland and Romania starting this month. It’s said that the smartphone will be offered for only €1 on select contracts.

Remember the Gigabyte G1305 Codfish, caught running Android earlier this moth? The smartphone has recently received its Bluetooth certification from the Bluetooth SIG, and it looks like it’s actually called Gigabyte Boston.

Moreover, the handset seems to be destined for Orange, which might launch it soon – although we don’t know when, and neither for what price.

The features of the Gigabyte G1305 Boston / Codfish include GSM and HSDPA connectivity (900/1900/2100 MHz), a 3.2 inch HVGA (480 x 320) touchscreen display, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, A-GPS, 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 CPU, and 256MB of RAM.

It’s not clear yet what version of the Android OS the smartphone is running, but let’s hope it’s Android 2.1.

Two unannounced Gigabyte smartphone shave recently appeared in Ukraine, one running Android 1.6 and another one running Windows Mobil 6.5.

The Android device is called Gigabyte GSmart G1305 Codfish, and it looks like it has more features than the first Gigabyte Android handset.

The GSmart G1305 Codfish comes with quad-band GSM connectivity, tri-band HSDPA connectivity (900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz), Wi-Fi, GPS, a 3.2 inch HVGA display, 256MB of RAM and a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor.

The Gigabyte G1305 Codfish measures 116 x 56.8 x 12.4 mm and looks like this:

Next, the Gigabyte GSmart S1205 Cougar looks more elegant than the G1305 Codfish, and apparently it’s a dual SIM smartphone.

The S1205 Cougar features a 3.2 inch touchscreen display, quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, 128MB of RAM, and a 416MHz processor.

For the moment, there are no details on the release dates and prices of Gigabyte GSmart G1305 Codfish and GSmart S1205 Cougar.

Gigabyte’s GSmart Android phone in live photos

Gigabyte’s first Android handset – the still unnamed device from the GSmart series – has just appeared in a set of live photos, allowing us to take a better look at it.

Granted, this is not a phone that can make you say wow – but most probably Gigabyte doesn’t want it to be anyway.

Reportedly running Android 1.6 (like the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10), the new GSmart phone has a 2.8 inch QVGA display, trackball, Wi-Fi, GPS, 192MB RAM, 512MB ROM, 528Mhz Qualcomm processor, 2MP autofocus camera, MicroSD card support, and even a 3.5mm headset jack. The only important feature that’s missing is 3G connectivity.

The Gigabyte GSmart Android phone will be available starting February or March, for a modest price: around €200 (or $300) – so it should compete with the HTC Tattoo.

We’ve recently told you that Gigabyte might make Android smartphones, and it looks like the Taiwanese company already has a handset based on Google’s open source OS.

The Gigabyte Android smartphone doesn’t have a name yet, but it’s part of the GSmart series – which, until now, included only Windows Mobile devices.

The new handset runs Android 1.6, it has a trackball and measures 103 x 54 x 13.4 millimeters. Mobile-review has some photos of the device:

Gigabyte to make Android phones, too?

While reporting about the launch of A688 – a new Android handset made by Foxconn for the Taiwanese mobile carrier Vibo – DigiTimes has also implied that computer maker Gigabyte may be interested to manufacture Android smartphones, too.

Of course, Gigabyte already has smartphones, but all of them run Windows Mobile (the latest-announced being the GSmart S1200).

Reportedly, Gigabyte and another Taiwanese company (AboCom Systems) are both in talks with Vibo for producing handsets based on Google’s Android platform, although there’s nothing certain at this moment.

Since Gigabyte makes Linux-based MIDs (like the 4.8 inch Gigabyte M528 seen in the photo below), the company can surely make Android devices as well.

Speaking of the M528, some Taiwanese developer has ported Android on it last year, as you can see in the video below:

Gigabyte’s GSmart S1200 fully unveiled: WVGA display and Windows Mobile

Gigabyte may not be the first company to come into mind when one’s thinking about smartphones, but that doesn’t mean the Taiwanese company does not have a place of its own at MWC 2009.

We told you not long ago that the manufacturer’s GSmart S1200 is almost ready to be unveiled to the world, and this has obviously happened in Barcelona, during MWC.

The handset looks really nice and elegant, having a chromed trim and a large WVGA display. It’s also quite slim, measuring only 105.5 x 52 x 11.4 millimeters.

As expected, the S1200 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and it’s upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.5.

Its full list of features includes:

Gigabyte to launch an iPhone-killer smartphone: GSmart S1200

OK, I know many of you don’t like the “iPhone-killer” expression (and I’m not too fond of it myself), but wait until you see the Gsmart S1200 – one of the smartphones Gigabyte is readying for MWC 2009.

The handset is only 0.43-inch (11mm) thick and it looks really well-designed. Its OS is Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, all dressed-up with Gigabyte’s Smart Zone – a brand new interface developed by the Taiwanese company itself.

GSmart S1200 is powered by a 528MHz Qualcomm 7200A CPU. Its display seems large enough to have a VGA resolution, so let’s hope it actually does have it. Unfortunately, other details about the device are currently missing.

Anyway, here’s what it looks like:

Together with the Gsmart S1200, Gigabyte (better known for its computer hardware stuff rather than for smartphones) will also unveil three new series of handsets, said to fall under the Business, Style and Multimedia categories.

Guess we’ll see what exactly all this is about at MWC.

GSmart (Gigabyte’s mobile phone brand) has brought an arsenal of new Windows Mobile handsets to the Computex show in Taipei. The flagship of the new range is Gigabyte GSmart MS808.

MS808 sports everything a mobile TV fan could want, but was afraid to ask for. It supports -T, DVB-H, T-DMB and ISDB-T. And if that isn’t enough to make you happy, it also has GPS and runs Windows Mobile 6.1.

The CPU is a 624 MHz Marvell PXA310 and Gigabyte GSmart MS808 has a 2.8″ display that fits its mobile TV capabilities.

GSmart MS808, just like all GSmart models to be released this year, features the company’s new SmartTouch GUI and G-Sensor applications, perfect for games and multimedia applications.
Joining GSmart’s SmartTouch party at Computex will be a few other new models. Gigabyte GSmart MS802, set to replace GSmart MS800, has 3G support and a 520 MHz CPU. GSmart MS802 runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional. It also has WiFi and is accompanied by GSmart MW702, that has the same specifications, but is an EDGE version.

Last but not least, Computex visitors got to admire the 3G Gigabyte GSmart MS820 (and its EDGE version, MW720). It has a 520 MHz CPU, a 2.8″ display and the OS is Windows Mobile Professional 6.1. Another interesting feature of GSmart MS820 is the 3 megapixel camera, more than suitable for snapshots.

With Mobile World Congress (former 3GSM) show in Barcelona just a week away, we continue to peak at the new mobile phones to be announced there.

Today’s first handset comes from Taiwanese vendor Gigabyte, which has one powerful Windows Mobile smartphone prepped for the show.

Gigabyte O2 XDA Denim details surface

About a month ago I noticed that one more Gibayte O2 3G smartphone – XDA Denim was approved by FCC, but there were no details available about it at the time.

Well, now the confidentiality period on O₂ XDA Denim has expired and all the details about this smartphone are available on FCC site.

Turns out that Gigabyte O2 Denim is one powerful Windows Mobile 6 slider with novel navigation pad that is located below the slideout keypad.

The navigation keypad has the capsense keys, which is another fancy way of saying that the keys are touch sensitive. They work pretty well on LG Chocolate phones, so they should work on XDA Denim too.

According to French site clubic.com, Gigabyte will announce a new UMPC during CeBit tradeshow in Germany this March.

Called Gigabyte U60 this UMPC will have an interesting slid-out keyboard and will be based on Via C7-M mobile processor.

Gigabyte U60 UMPC will also come with 6.5″ (800×600) screen, 1.8″ 20 and 30 GB HDD, Wi-Fi b/g, 2 USB ports and SD/MMC memory card reader.
