While Inventec has been known to be working on a UMPC/MID devices, not much info has been available about them.

Some Inventec UMPC/MIDs appeared in Intel Menlow platform presentation slides, there were also some pictures of Inventec Mobile Internet Device from this year CES.

Well, now I can confirm that Inventec indeed has two UMPCs/MIDs in the works. I’m not sure whether it’s their sales name (doesn’t sound like it), but they are currently called Inventec UMPC 7-A and UMPC 5-D.

Both of them participated in IF Product Design Award 2008 competition and received the awards. And, according to the competition rules, they should “go into mass production” this year.

Inventec UMPC 7-A has a slider QWERTY keyboard and differentiates itself via curved design, “…which forms an angle between LCD and table, provides a better view… allows a bigger degree when the LCD is shifted by the user, and also lets the keyboard to be naturally placed in a slanted way”:

Inventec UMPC 5-D focuses on modular design and comes with an interesting docking station and a set of appliances:

No info on Inventec MID/UMPC specs so far. But Inventec is a member of Intel Mobile Internet Device Innovation Alliance and already had a working prototype at IDF San Francisco in September. And they are showing Windows Vista

So, I think it’s safe to say, that both Inventec UMPC 5-D and UMPC 7-A will be running on Intel Menlow platform, with 45-nm 800 MHz-1.33 GHz Silverthone CPU, Poulsbo US15 chipset, 1-2 GB of RAM and 30-60 GB HDD.
