If you own a Lenovo ThinkPad tablet and are wondering if it will ever be updated to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, then we have good news. The ThinkPad tablet will indeed be running the newest version of Google’s mobile operating system sometime in the second quarter of this year (so the update will arrive in April, May, or June).

That information comes from the Chinese company directly, according to ITworld. The Lenovo ThinkPad tablet clearly is a unique offering in the tablet space at this point, with its iconic branding and looks that borrow a bit from ThinkPad laptops. And let’s not forget that it has its own digitizer pen for those times when thumb-typing on your tablet simply isn’t an option.

It’s clearly one aimed more at professionals than the casual tablet user, and it’s nice to see that even such a niche offering won’t be forgotten, software-wise. Unfortunately at this moment we don’t have more detailed information, but we’ll keep you posted.

Lenovo has officially introduced a new Android tablet at CES 2012: the IdeaTab S2.

The S2 is Lenovo’s first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet, and comes with a “light keyboard dock” that “can deliver an incredible 20 hours of battery life, which is great for both entertainment and productivity” – so it can be seen as a direct competitor to Asus’ Transformer Prime.

However, unlike the Transformer Prime, Lenovo’s IdeaTab S2 doesn’t have a quad-core processor, but a dual-core one (although we’ve heard the company may have a quad-core tablet, too). Other features: 10 inch display, Lenovo Mondrian UI, rear and front-facing cameras.

The IdeaTab S2 is “available immediately in China”, and should be released in other markets “at a later date.”

Lenovo has also brought the previously-announced Smartphone S2 at CES 2012 (it still runs Android Gingerbread, and there’s no word if it’s going to get Android 4.0 ICS). More interestingly, the company has announced the K91 smart TV, which, like the IdeaPad S2, uses Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (being the world’s first TV to do so) and has a dual-core processor.

More info is available here at Lenovo.

The smartphone is called Lenovo LePhone S2. It runs Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, and features a 3.8 inch WVGA display, 3G, 8MP camera with 720p video recording, and a single-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor. The handset will have two versions: one with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of storage space, and one with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space.

The new Lenovo tablet – called LePad S2005 – is not much bigger than the LePhone S2, since it only has a 5 inch (800 x 480) display. The tablet also features Android Gingerbread (2.3.5), HSPA+, micro HDMI, 5MP rear camera with 1080p video recording, 1.3MP front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, and a dual-core 1.2GHz processor.

The LePad S2005 should become available in China in a few days for an unknown price. Details on the release of the LePhone S2 have not been unveiled. For the moment, there’s no word if Lenovo plans to introduce these two new Android devices in other markets except China.

Not long after we’ve found out that HTC is readying a quad-core Android phone – the so called HTC Edge – we’re now hearing that the Taiwanese company is also getting ready to introduce a quad-core Android tablet.

According to DigiTimes, HTC will “likely” unveil the quad-core Android table at MWC 2012. The device should hit the market before the end of next year’s third quarter.

Just like Asus’ Transformer Prime, and the above-mentioned HTC Edge, the new HTC tablet should feature an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.

Another company that’s readying a quad-core (1.6GHz) Android tablet is Lenovo. Engadget even has an image of the tablet (only its back side, though), saying that it should be out before the year’s end:

Reportedly, Lenovo’s quad-core tablet will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, featuring a 10.1 inch display of unknown resolution, 2GB of RAM, fingerprint scanner, and a “Special Fusion-Skin Body.”

We’ll bring more on these two unannounced tablets as soon as new details are unveiled.

Lenovo’s newest Android-powered tablet is called the IdeaPad A1 and was unveiled at the beginning of September during IFA. The IdeaPad A1 is Lenovo’s first 7-inch offering, and it comes with some decent specs and great pricing. However, the whole package is a bit let down by software. See, the Lenovo IdeaPad A1 runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread for reasons that are beyond us. Android 3.2 Honeycomb is readily available now, and it is the tablet-optimized version of Google’s mobile operating system. Furthermore, this version, 3.2, is even made to work well with screens of resolutions similar to that of the IdeaPad A1. So what was Lenovo thinking here? Who knows.

Anyway, if you don’t mind the phone-focused operating system, you may be quite happy with this tablet. It comes with a 7-inch 1024×600 touchscreen, a 1 GHz processor, a 5 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front-facing camera, 512 MB of RAM, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

The cheapest version costs an amazing $199 and is available only in black and comes with just 2 GB of built-in storage. For $50 more you get 16 GB of storage and a choice of four colors – with white, blue, and pink alongside the obvious black option.

All the different SKUs are set to start shipping on October 27, which is three weeks from now. So you’ll still need to do some waiting, but if you go to Lenovo and order an IdeaPad A1 now, at least you’ll know that you’ll be among the first people in the world to get your hands on one.

If you thought that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the Toshiba AT200 were the only tablets to be announced today, well, you were wrong. Lenovo also had something to show us at IFA.

The IdeaPad A1 is a 7-inch tablet that looks familiar, since we’ve already seen it once before. Now unlike the other two tablets unveiled today, this won’t claim to be one of the thinnest around. Just one of the cheapest.

The 8 GB version of the IdeaPad A1 is set to cost $199, although using US Dollars there is a bit odd, considering that this particular version of the tablet will never make it to the US. Strange, we know. The USA will only get 16 or 32 GB options, with the former costing $249 and the latter $299. Still, if that $199 doesn’t ‘translate’ into something like £300 or €350 (as things usually happen when a product reaches Europe), color us interested.

Aside from the price, the IdeaPad A1 is a pretty competitive offering, however one hampered by software. For whatever reason, Lenovo chose to put Android Gingerbread on the A1, and there’s no sign of it ever being upgraded to anything else. Not yet, anyway.

Why Lenovo chose to take this path instead of using Android 3.2 which would have worked fine with the A1′s resolution, or even Ice Cream Sandwich (since by the time the A1 launches it should be ready), is, as usual, uncertain. But this is how things are nevertheless.

The Lenovo IdeaPad A1 has a 7-inch 1024×600 touchscreen, a 3 MP rear camera, a secondary front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, microSD card support, and a single-core processor. The IdeaPad A1 will be available later this year. No word yet on 3G-enabled versions, it’s all Wi-Fi-only for now.

After about a month since the official announcement, Lenovo’s second Android-powered tablet, the ThinkPad, is now available to order from the manufacturer’s website. Lenovo has previously launched the IdeaPad tablet in the US, which is aimed more at ‘consumers’, according to the company – while the ThinkPad tablet is more for ‘professionals’.

The ThinkPad tablet comes with a design that stands out in the Android tablet world, as well as with a digitizer pen that’s sold separately. There are three versions of the tablet, having 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB of storage space. They cost $499, $569, and $669, respectively. All these SKUs are Wi-Fi-only and don’t come with any mobile data connectivity built-in. It’s unclear if Lenovo plans to release 3G or 4G tablets later on.

The ThinkPad tablet has a 10.1-inch 1280×800 touchscreen, a 1 GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1 GB of RAM, and two cameras (one at the back and one at the front for video conferencing). It runs Android 3.1 Honeycomb. The ThinkPad tablet will also have a range of interesting accessories. Aside from the digitizer pen, there’s also the Keyboard Folio case which protects your tablet while also adding a keyboard, and the Tablet Dock, which is exactly what it sounds like.

You can go ahead and order the ThinkPad tablet right now from Lenovo’s dedicated website. The company will start shipping orders on August 29, which is just six days away – so if you’ve always wanted a ThinkPad tablet, the wait is almost over.

It appears that the Lenovo LePad A1-07 has finally made its debut in China earlier this week. Looking beyond the bizarre photograph of the slate shown submerged in some sand, you’ll find a tablet with a pretty sleek design. The LePad, struts a 7-inch 1024 x 600 display with a microSD slot.

Other tab features include:

1GHz TI OMAP3622 processor

512MB of RAM and 16GB of storage

Front and back-facing cameras

As you can see features are standard at best, and running Gingerbread (2.3) instead of Honeycomb doesn’t help matters. But if you’re in China it may appeal to you as an effective e-reader, but it’ll set you back ¥2,500 (about $390). If your interested in getting your hands on this tablet in the US, I wouldn’t exactly hold my breath; Lenovo hasn’t announced any details on a potential release just yet.

The company targets the IdeaPad K1 at ‘consumers’, and the ThinkPad more at businesses and professionals. We heard that the latter would become available in the US on August 2, however that has changed. A small delay is what’s going on here, though nothing to get too upset with.

Lenovo now claims that the ThinkPad tablet will ship on August 23. The starting price is $479, which you can pay to get a 16 GB tablet sans the digitizer pen. If you want the pen, the same 16 GB tablet will cost you $509. If you want to get a ThinkPad model with 32 GB of internal storage space, that will be $589, digitizer pen included. An optional keyboard portfolio case is also going to be sold for $99.

The aforementioned tablet models are all Wi-Fi-only. 3G-enabled versions will be launched at a later date.

After going on sale in the US, the ThinkPad tablet will also make its way across the world before the end of September.

The Lenovo ThinkPad tablet comes with a 10.1-inch 1280×800 capacitive touchscreen with Gorilla Glass, a dual-core 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mini HDMI.

Lenovo has officially announced the launch of three new tablets, two running Android 3.1 Honeycomb (Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet and Lenovo IdeaPad K1), and one running Windows 7 (IdeaPad Tablet P1, which isn’t of interest to us).

The two Android tablets will be available in the US, the UK, and Germany – and most likely in other markets, too, but these are the only ones that Lenovo mentioned for now.

In the US, the Lenovo tablets will be “the first Honeycomb tablets certified for Netflix”. The IdeaPad Tablet K1 (pictured below) can be ordered as of today at some locations, including Lenovo’s official website. Its features include a 10.1 inch WXGA (1280 x 800) display, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 5MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, mini HDMI, dual-core Nvidia Tegra processor, 32GB of internal memory, and integrated cloud storage (2GB free).

The Lenovo ThinkPad tablet, which “combines the superior media and entertainment experience of the IdeaPad Tablet K1 with the security, reliability and manageability features ThinkPad is known for”, will be released in the US in August 2. Prices for the ThinkPad Tablet will start at $479 (16GB, without digitizer pen – which will cost an extra $30). A 3G version should be release later this year.

It seems like it was just yesterday when we heard conclusive information about Lenovo’s tablet plans centered around Android. And in fact it wasn’t that long ago. That was in mid-June. Lenovo sure moves fast, since apparently its first Android-powered tablet has just started shipping in the US.

That’s right, the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 tablet, which we saw again toward the end of June, is now on its way to those who ordered it from Office Depot. So it’s probably likely that over the next few days it will start to become available everywhere there are electronics (and especially computers) sold.

Competition is always good, yet it’s unclear what exactly may differentiate Lenovo’s first tablet in the crowded Android tablet market. Perhaps the brand is going to be enough for some. Speaking of which, Lenovo is also expected to release a ThinkPad-branded offering later on.

The K1 being branded IdeaPad is aimed primarily at individual consumers, while the ThinkPad tablet will undoubtedly appeal to corporate environments.

Two, because one would be consumer-oriented and launch under the IdeaPad brand, and the other would be business-focused and sold under the well known brand ThinkPad brand.

Back then we also heard that Lenovo’s IdeaPad tablet would launch worldwide in July, and today we have some more information that suggests that may be the case indeed (or the launch will at least happen in the US in July).

What you see above is a leaked price tag for the Lenovo IdeaPad tablet, also known by its model number K1. The price tag has been seen at OfficeMax, and it indicates $499.99 as the price for the 32 GB K1 IdeaPad. That’s not a bad price at all, considering that it’s the exact same price for which Apple sells the cheapest iPad 2. The difference? The IdeaPad has double the storage.

Aside from that, in terms of specs, the IdeaPad K1 is certainly nothing revolutionary, having a 10.1-inch 1280×800 capacitive touchscreen, two cameras, 10 hours battery life (something that almost every tablet producer claims, yet very few actually deliver on that promise), an aluminum rear casing, a weight of 725 grams, and a thickness of 13.2 mm. The Lenovo IdeaPad K1 will run Android Honeycomb.

Yes, those are specs very similar to virtually every other 10-inch Android tablet out there, but if storage space is key for you, then the IdeaPad will probably be the cheapest tablet to offer 32 GB.

Unfortunately we still don’t have an exact release date for the IdeaPad K1, but now that the pricing is pretty much clear, it can’t take long before that information leaks too. And it clearly looks like Lenovo is set to make good on its promise to ship the IdeaPad tablet in July.

Lenovo apparently has big plans in the tablet space. It, of course, is just the latest in a long list of computer makers to see the appeal of the tablet market. All three of the top three computer makers (HP, Dell, and Acer) already sell tablets. So here’s the fourth largest PC maker following suit.

Lenovo will launch not one, but two 10-inch tablets running Android Honeycomb very soon. The first one will be branded IdeaPad and will be sold to consumers worldwide starting in July. Yes, it seems like in just a few weeks you’ll be able to buy a brand new Lenovo IdeaPad Android tablet.

Lenovo will release the second, business-focused tablet a bit later, probably in August. This tablet will be branded ThinkPad, bringing an iconic brand from the PC space into the tablet market. It will be interesting to see how die-hard ThinkPad fans will react to their beloved brand being applied to a tablet, where it will lose some of the key features people love about ThinkPad-branded gear (such as the keyboard).

Both 10-inch Lenovo tablets will cost between $450 and $900, depending on configuration. The ThinkPad tablet will come with a capacitive stylus to facilitate signature capture.

Lenovo’s plans don’t stop there though. It will launch a tablet running Windows later this year. This will also be a 10-inch device. At some later point (it’s unclear if this year or not), Lenovo even plans to introduce 7-inch tablets “for certain uses”.

Lenovo President and Chief Operating Officer Rory Read said that “some of the early-generation Android devices were a little ahead of their time, and what we’re doing here is making sure [our tablets] are strong. We only have one opportunity to make that first good impression”. That sounds about right, and fits in nicely with what Mr. Read had to say back in October of last year, when we first heard that Lenovo was going to launch a Honeycomb tablet.

Read expects tablets to make up around 15% of the computer market in the next three years or so, and thinks that “netbooks are pretty much over”.

What remains to be seen is how much Lenovo will be able to differentiate its tablets in an increasingly crowded space filled with lookalike Android offerings. Thankfully though, it looks like we won’t have to wait long to find out.

As for smartphones, the US won’t see a Lenovo handset for at least 12-18 months, with the company focusing on its home market in China, then planning to expand to other emerging markets after it has gained enough scale.

Called Lenovo S800 (for the moment, because the name might be changed), the new transparent phone has been showcased recently during a fashion event in Beijing.

The handset doesn’t look too different from the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness. However, unlike the screen of SE’s phone, which can only show grey shades, the one of the Lenovo S800 can display colors.

Check out the photos below:

Lenovo didn’t unveil the specs of the S800. Also, the company didn’t say when the phone would be commercially available, and neither for what price.

Like many other companies, China-based Lenovo plans to enter the tablet market. It won’t do it this year, though, as Lenovo waits for Android 3.0 (Hoenycomb) to be launched first.

According to Lenovo USA’s CEO Rory Read (quoted by PC Mag), Android 2.2 Froyo is not “the right base to have a fully functioning pad” – that’s why the company’s first tablet will be out in the US in the summer of 2011 the earliest, after Google releases Android Honeycomb.

By then, the market will be crowded with tablets from RIM, Motorola, Samsung, HTC, Acer, and possibly with new iPads, too.

We will also see Windows 7 tablets next year, but PC Mag reports that Lenovo “apparently has no plans to roll out” tablets based on Microsoft’s OS, despite having Windows 7 PCs and touchscreen laptops (like the ThinkPad X201 pictured below).

Like the Android-based Lenovo LePhone – currently available only in China – the first Lenovo Android tablet will reportedly have a name that starts with “Le” (which means happy in Chinese).

Although WebOS was announced lat year as something new and exciting, Palm isn’t doing well at all lately – maybe because it has launched its Pre and Pixi smartphones a bit too late (and only via Sprint for the beginning).

We’ve heard more than once that Nokia might be interested in buying Palm, but today a new rumor has it that there’s another giant company that might want to take over the Sunnyvale-based smartphone manufacturer: it’s Lenovo, currently the world’s fourth largest PC maker.

While Lenovo is mainly known for its laptops and desktop computers, the company has also entered the smartphone market – its latest smartphone is the LePhone (which runs Android).

There’s certainly great potential in Palm’s WebOS, and the company’s CEO recently said that they’re “making great progress on future products”, so Lenovo has some solid reasons to consider buying the company – but, of course, this may never happen.

Well, at least the rumor of Lenovo buying Palm helped the latter’s stock surge in only a few hours.

Dubbed the Lenovo LePhone (“Le” means “happiness” in Chinese), the new handset looks pretty cool and comes with many high-end features that make it almost similar to the Google Nexus One.

The LePhone has a 3.7 inch WVGA touchscreen display (AMOLED, apparently), 1GHz Snapdragon processor, WCDMA connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3MP camera and MicroSD card support.

Running Android 2.0, the Lenovo LePhone has a customized users interface with widgets that reminds me of Palm’s WebOS.

The handset also has a touch-sensitive area below the display, and it can magnetically connect to various peripherals, like this QWERTY keyboard:

Lenovo, which recently announced the Skylight smartbook for AT&T, says that its LePhone will be first available in China (sometime later this year). The company is also exploring the possibilities of launching the handset via multiple carriers around the world, so we might see the LePhone in the US and Europe, too.

It looks like the Android-based and 5-megapixel snapping Lenovo Ophone is ready for primetime, as according to a report from Reuters, China Mobile is said to be planning the launch of the same within the first quarter of this year. Which is in the next couple of months.

The Ophone is, of course, based on the open-source Android OS. It’s going to be one of the first “high-end” Android phones to be ever released, sporting a very sleek and simplistic design, with support for China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA technology.

Reuters’ sources was quoted as saying, “The product is in the final testing stage at the moment.” And I’m sure you know exactly what that means.

So if you’ve been waiting for a chance to paw at this handset after first seeing it in live pictures, your time will come soon enough.

There’s no denying that the Lenovo Ophone is indeed sexy, far more sexier than the G1, and quite possibly even sleeker than the iPhone itself. But how well it really works still remains a mystery. We’ll find out for sure once either Lenovo or China Mobile spill out official details regarding it.

Of course, it’s also possible that an insider would find a way to get his hands on this handset, and test it out for us in advance. But until that happens, we’ll just have to settle on these live photos for now.

The Android fever is surely spreading quickly, and the latest manufacturer to unveil a handset that runs on Google’s open source OS is Lenovo – yes, the China-based company mainly known for its laptops and desktop PCs.

Well, Lenovo also makes mobile phones (take P960, for example), and right now it’s working on an Android one called Ophone. We’ve heard about it before, when reports about a collaboration between Lenovo and China Mobile appeared, but there were no details on the handset’s design.

Now an image with the Ophone leaked on the Web, via Mod my Gphone, unveiling a device that looks way better than the T-Mobile G1. And I dare say it also looks better than Apple’s iPhone, although I’m sure many of you will disagree. Anyway, here’s the Ophone:

There are no details about the handset’s features, save for the fact that its Android OS is somehow modified to work with China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA technology. This being said, it’s most likely that the Ophone will only be commercialized across China, unless a GSM or a regular CDMA version of it is also build.

What’s interesting is that a British company called O’WONDER says it owns the OPHONE trademark. Even more, the trademark seems to be for a handset that will be based on Android too.

This means that, most probably, Lenovo will have to change the official name of its first Android device. But regardless of how it will dub it, the handset has lots of chances to be a huge success in China.

The folks over at Lenovo sure know how to be eccentric. Just check out the form factor-or more specifically, the keypad-on a new smartphone they’ve made. Enhanced by a made-for-mobile fingerprint solution from Altrua Technologies, the Lenovo P960 is a tool that will keep all your data safe-supposedly.

Other than its built-in Fingerprint Biometrics Security tech and so-called “VIP recording” (which records calls from pre-assigned phone numbers), the Lenovo P960 features just about the same features as most premium smartphones nowadays.

Lenovo P960

As is the trend lately, the Lenovo P960 is equipped with a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, 1.3 megapixel camera and microSD card slot. It’s screen supports stylus-based input, while below it you’ll find the non-traditional numerical keypad as well as a few soft keys and a four-way D-pad.

Too bad the it doesn’t run 3G speeds and can only work on GSM dual-band networks, though, but if you can’t settle for anything less in mobile data security, this model offers a lot to help you out.

In an online press release today the Swedish mobile company Ericsson announced their plans to supply HSPA/GPS modules for new Dell laptops, starting Q2 2008.

HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) is the world’s most widespread form of 3G broadband, capable of providing download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbit/s (in theory) and up to 7.2 Mbit/s in already existing deployments; according to Ericsson’s data, there are 185 commercial networks around the world using this standard.

The built-in HSPA modules will allow the owners of Dell laptops to enjoy seamless roaming while traveling through a region covered by one of these, as well as use the GPS and the positioning software.

Dell laptops will have HSPA&GPS modules from Ericsson built in them starting with the second quarter of this year:

The pricing details are not yet released.

This is not the first time that Ericsson strikes such a deal, having signed the first contract for their mobile broadband modules with Lenovo back in February. Lenovo’s ThinkPad laptops now come with integrated mobile broadband and GPS.

Ericsson estimates that by 2011, approximately 200 million laptops will be sold each year, and half of them will have HSPA broadband modules integrated.

So, you think that for mobile phone gaming to succeed, the phones should have a massive memory, graphics processing capabilities, big screens and other things that makes them popular on desktops?

But what about the tons of massively popular games that are already out there from years ago? They did not need and didn’t have anything of the above. In fact, your current average handset is much more powerful computer then a PC or gaming console you had 10-15 years ago.

So why not take a popular gaming system, like NES, put it’s software emulator into a phone, add some accessories like D-Pad for game control, an run with it. You already have a tons of ready to go cheap games and a nostalgic fan base to boot.

Well, that’s exactly what Lenovo is thinking with their new Lenovo i909 gaming phone.

Lenovo i909 is a good looking candybar handset with 2.4″ 262K color QVGA TFT display, 2 megapixel camera, microSD memory card slot, mp3 and video player, 111.4 × 50.2 × 15.5 mm dimensions and 112.8 gr weight. Overall, traditional, well designed, low to mid-end handset.

What makes Lenovo i909 special – is a software emulator that let’s you play NES games on it, and a cool D-pad controller that attaches to the phone and makes your gaming experience even more fun.

Looks like a nice idea, which, unfortunately, will be available only in China for now.
