Slim Nokia 6300b with “push-to-talk”, Yahoo mail and IM comes to U.S.

Looks like Nokia finally decided to give in to the “thin” trend and is releasing it’s own slim candybar cellphone – Nokia 6300. And they will be selling it in U.S. soon. At least that’s what FCC site tells us – they have approved it yesterday.

It still is almost twice as thick then the “worlds slimmest phone” – Samsung X820, but at 0.5″ (13.1 mm) (thick) x 1.7″ (43.8 mm) (wide) x L 4.2″ (106.8mm) (long) and only 3.52 oz. (100g) weight Nokia 6300 is the move in the right direction.

Most of Nokia 6300 features are by now standard for this class of phones and include 2″ QVGA screen, 2 megapixel camera, FM radio, media player for video and music files and voice recorder. It has 32 MB flash memory and a slot for microSD memory cards that can store up to 2GB of data.

However the model approved for sale in the U.S. – Nokia 6300b – is a little different from the standard one and will include a number of cool features specific for this region.

Nokia 6300b User Manual (*.pdf) shows that it will have “Push-to-talk” functionality that should work through any GPRS enabled GSM network.

Nokia 6300b is also one of the first “Series 40″ Nokia phones that will seamlessly integrate various Yahoo services into it’s menu. At first these services will include Yahoo Mail and Instant Messenger, so you will be able to IM your friends and check your e-mail easily while on the move.

Slim design and cool non-standard features such as PTT and Yahoo services might be just the thing to attract users in the U.S. when this phone goes on sale through major wireless carriers. Expected price before subsidies for Nokia 6300b is somewhere around $300.
