In the past Nokia has been known to be rather late with the introduction of it’s cellphones to the U.S. market. Usually European and Asian markets were served first and then after a few months the phones with slightly different numbering schemes were released in U.S.

Now things might be changing. Only a few weeks after the introduction of new Nokia Nseries N72, N73 and N93 handsets at the Open Studio presentation in Berlin, these Nokia mobile phones/multimedia computers are showing up on FCC website. Yesterday Nokia Nseries N93 cellphone/camcoder was approved by FCC.

Quick look at the photos and browse through users manual at FCC site confirms that this is indeed the same phone that was presented in Berlin. Nseries Nokia N93 will come 3.2 megapixel camera, 30fps video capture, WLAN, mp3 player, lots of memory and other cool features we reported earlier. Some new features that we missed during the introduction:

TV out port for easy connection to external TV sets and projectors
Sequence mode of up to 6 pictures for still camera
Camera self timer

Nseries Nokia N93 mobile camcorder-music-player phone

As we reported yesterday, Nokia has announced a number of new Nseries cellphones/multimedia computers. One of them was high end Nokia N93 mobile phone with integrated camcorder capability. Today we got a chance to have a closer look at it and we weren’t disappointed. 3.2 megapixel camera, Carl Zeiss otpics with 3x optical zoom, MPEG-4 VGA playback and capture of up to 30 fps, integrated music player, FM radio and Wi-Fi makes this handset one of our favorites. We have only 2 problems with Nseries N93 cell phone:

First, it is bulky. In a perfect world you would have had all the features of Nseries Nokia N93 in a form factor of Samsung SCH-V870. But it isn’t a perfect worldâ€¦yet. So now you will have to choose what you prefer – ordinary slim cell phone or feature packed mobile camcorder-music-video-player-game-console phone.

And second, where’s the TV function? C’mon Nokia, why do I have to choose – mobile TV or mobile camcorder? I want both! Well, I guess it might have been tricky to pack everything even into such a bulky phone. So we will have to wait until the components get even smaller.

N72, N73 and N93 Nokia Nseries line expansion

In April of 2005 Nokia introduced Nseries â€“ a new category line of mobile phones/multimedia computers. Nokia has a semi separate business division focusing on development of these multimedia cellphones with their own development and marketing budget. So far Nokia has released or announced 6 different Nseries models – N70, N71, N80, N90, N91 and N92.

Today, at an Open Studio Workshop in Berlin Nokia has announced expansion of the Nseries line with N72, N73 and N93 handsets.

EDGE/GSM Nokia N72 coming in pearl pink or gloss black is a stylish handset with 2 megapixel camera, integrated digital music player, has dedicated capture and music player keys, integrated browser, FM radio and support for Visual Radio. Nokia N72 comes with dedicated software – Nokia Music Manager, which lets you create custom playlists, rip CDs and transfer mp3 tracks from the PC. With dedicated shutter keys you can use this phone as a normal digital camera, with 2.1 inch color display acting as a viewfinder.

More advanced Nokia N73 has a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and is able to provide ‘real’ photo quality up to 10″ x 8″ (25 x 20 cm). Nokia N73 also has mechanical shutter, dedicated controls for capture, zoom and review with advanced autofocus and 2.4â€? full screen landscape viewfinder. On the music front Nokia N73 integrates stereo speakers with 3D sound, equalizer, digital music player, ability to create and edit playlists and FM radio. For business users dedicated Office, email, organizer applications are included with easy PC synchronization features.

Having become biggest digital camera vendor in the world, Nokia has now set its sights after digital camcorder market with itâ€™s high end Nokia N93 cellphone. Featuring 3.2 megapixel (2048 x 1536 pixels) camera with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, 3x optical and up to 20x digital zoom, autofocus, close-up mode, stereo audio recording and digital stabilization, Nokia N93 is able to capture MPEG4 30 frames per second DVD quality movies. Specialized camera control keys and menus make itâ€˜s operation as easy as any consumer camcorder. Nokia N93 also comes with built in WLAN (Wi-Fi) connectivity, 50MB of internal memory and miniSD memory card slot, upgradeable to 2GB of memory, which will be able to store up to 90minutes of DVD quality videos. Nokia N93 is expected to go on sale for 550 EUros in July 2006.
