Samsung agrees to sell-out stake in Symbian to Nokia

Recalling Nokia’s sudden move to acquire the software firm Symbian and make it open-source with the Symbian Foundation, I was just thinking what other manufacturers like Samsung will do since they also have a stake in the existing software firm.

Well, my question got answered to day, when Nokia announced that Samsung has agreed to sell out their stake in Symbian.

Samsung, which has been launching several handsets running on the latest version of the Symbian OS recently, has agreed to sell-out with the rest of the other Symbian shareholders to Nokia for $410 million. It’s still not clear what type of OS new Samsung phones are going to run on then, or whether it will also take part in the new open-source Symbian Foundation, but it’s likely that it will take part in the open-source Symbian Foundation movement as well.

Sprint Drops Instinct Price to $120

Sure, Sprint knows all about the new iPhone coming out. They’ve heard about all the millions of phones that are supposed to be sold worldwide. They’re aware how many customers they lose every single quarter for the past year. They’ve decided it’s about time to do something about it.

The Samsung Instinct was reported to be offered for $199, but Sprint has changed the price and brought it down to a very reasonable $129.99 after $100 mail-in rebate.

This move seems to be in direct response to the upcoming iPhone launch; Sprint isn’t going to go down without a hard fight. Who’s going to win?

Needless to say, it should be interesting to watch. I’m interested to see the difference in customer feedback on both devices. It is also exciting to see more people put such sophisticated devices in their hands as the prices keep coming down.

Samsung SPH B6700 Card Phone II Announced

Remember Samsung SCH V870 Card Phone from last year? Now it has a successor – Samsung SPH B6700 Card Phone II.

As can be expected, while keeping slim appearances and dimensions (8.7 (L) x 5.9 (W) x 8,9 (T) mm) Samsung Card Phone II has an upgraded specs – 2 megapixel camera with camcorder, mp3 player, DMB-T tuner, 33K word Korean/English dictionary, external memory card slot, calendar, electronic dictionary, file viewing and printing capabilities.

Samsung also has a smart trick to prolong a battery life for Card Phone II (SPH B6700). There’s not enough space inside the phone to have a truly long lasting battery there. But Samsung B6700 comes with a leather case, to carry the phone around. And this leather case has twice the battery capacity inside.

The phone will be launched via KTF network and will cost around 500K Won, that’s 530 US$ in Korea.
