Hard discs are coming to your mobile phone. Samsung was the first to start this trend with it’s 1.5 GB SPH-V5400 clam-shell cell phone and then 3 GB HDD based SCH-V7900 handset. But only having an HDD does not make the cell phone attractive. In the end – how many photo’s, games or addresses will you be storing there? So with the next release of 3GB HDD SGH-i300 smartphone Samsung turned to music, marketing this handset as world’s first Music Smartphone.

Yesterday Samsung continued the trend it started with world’s first 8GB HDD Multimedia Smartphone SGH-i310. This candy shaped mobile handset with 8GB HDD runs on Windows Mobile 5.0 OS. The marketing message is still on the music features: “you can carry 2000 songs wherever you go, sync playlists and songs with PC” says Samsung. The phone supports MP3 / AAC / ACC+ / ACC+(e) / WMA / WAV / OGG audio formats has dual speakers and digital power amplifier, external music key for easy “scroll wheel” navigation and supports Bluetooth stereo (A2DP).

But Samsung also added a lot of features that makes it much more then just a mobile phone/music player. Samsung SGH-310i has 2 megapixel camera with flash, that can record video in high resolution, supports Mpeg 4/H.263 encoding and TV output. It also offers USB 2.0 and Plug & Play feature which allows the phone to be utilized as a removable hard disk, has external memory (micro SD) slot, document viewer and support for Bluetooth printing.

Samsung will introduce SGH-i310i smartphone during Cebit tradeshow this week and will start selling it in Europe this fall.
